Job description
We're working with an engineering-led technology business developing high-performance, Real Time platforms that process millions of events every minute for customers operating in mission-critical environments.
This is a pure Python Back End engineering role focused on designing, building and improving scalable Back End services. This is not a Data Engineering, AI/ML or Cloud Engineering position.
You'll be responsible for:
- Designing and developing production-grade Python Back End services
- Building scalable event-driven microservices
- Developing high-performance REST APIs using FastAPI
- Working with time-series and high-throughput data
- Solving complex production issues and improving system performance
- Refactoring and improving existing Python codebases
- Writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code
We're looking for engineers with experience in:
- Python (5+ years commercial)
- FastAPI
- Event-driven architecture
- RabbitMQ or Kafka
- Microservices
- Distributed systems
- Docker & Kubernetes
- PyTest and automated testing
- Production API development
Requirements
- Time-series databases (InfluxDB, TimescaleDB or similar)
- High-throughput or Real Time systems
- IoT, networking, telecommunications or trading platforms
Interview Process The interview consists of:
- A technical discussion around Python Back End engineering, software architecture and production systems.
- A live Python coding/refactoring exercise where you'll review and improve an existing codebase while explaining your engineering decisions.
Please note This role is specifically suited to experienced Python Backend Engineers. Candidates whose recent experience is primarily focused on Data Engineering, Machine Learning, Infrastructure Engineering or Cloud Platform Engineering are unlikely to be suitable.
