As a Senior Data Scientist, you will lead the delivery of high-impact data science, designing and building models that drive measurable value for Kier. You will set the standards for how we do machine learning and experimentation, providing technical leadership over modelling quality, validation, and reproducibility. This role will establish Kier's initial data science capability, laying the foundations for future scale while mentoring scientists and partnering closely with engineers and senior stakeholders.

What will you be responsible for? As a Senior Data Scientist, you'll be working within the Data & Analytics team, supporting them in delivering robust, explainable data science solutions that drive business value. Your day to day will include:

  • Leading the delivery of high-impact machine learning, statistical and AI solutions from design through to deployment and measurement
  • Owning significant data science problems end-to-end, from framing through to production and measurement
  • Applying and improving MLOps practices including experiment tracking, model versioning, deployment, monitoring and drift detection
  • Defining and promoting standards for modelling, validation, reproducibility, explainability and responsible AI
  • Providing technical coaching to Data Scientists and translating complex results into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders

Requirements

  • You have a degree (often postgraduate) or equivalent practical experience in a quantitative discipline
  • You have substantial experience delivering machine learning or statistical models that created measurable value in production
  • You have advanced Python and SQL skills, with strong software engineering habits and deep expertise in machine learning and experimental design
  • You have hands-on experience with cloud ML platforms such as Databricks, including MLflow, notebooks and Spark/PySpark
  • You can communicate and influence effectively with technical and business audiences, and enjoy mentoring and developing less experienced scientists
