Job description
An experienced Front End Developer is required to support the delivery of a secure, forms-heavy digital service within a government environment. The work supports an Inspectorate function, where a team of inspectors use digital tools to record and submit fire safety reports.
The role will focus on building scalable, accessible user interfaces using Next.js and React, integrated with secure Back End APIs and authentication services.
Please note this engagement may not be Full time throughout the contract period., * Develop and maintain web frontends using Next.js (React), including reusable components and state management.
- Build complex, validation-heavy user journeys (multi-step workflows, dashboards, and file uploads).
- Integrate with secure REST APIs, ensuring robust handling of loading, error, and edge states.
- Implement authentication flows using OIDC/SSO (Microsoft Entra ID via MSAL) and fallback OTP mechanisms.
- Ensure all deliverables meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards and UK Government Service Design principles.
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests for core components and user journeys.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines via GitHub, including code reviews, branching strategy, and automated deployments to Azure App Service.
- Collaborate closely with Back End engineers and solution architects using OpenAPI (Swagger) specifications.
Requirements
- Active SC Clearance (mandatory).
- Strong commercial experience with React (4+ years) and Next.js (SSR, SSG, routing, API integration).
- Proficient in TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- Experience implementing OIDC/OAuth2 authentication (eg Microsoft Entra ID, MSAL).
- Demonstrable delivery of accessible applications aligned to WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA standards.
- Experience developing forms-heavy applications, including validation, file handling, and error management.
- Testing experience with frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, or Playwright.
- Strong understanding of Git workflows and CI/CD practices.
Desirable
- Experience working within UK public sector or central government environments.
- Familiarity with Azure services, particularly Azure App Service.
