Job description

We're looking for a systems engineer with a passion for solving complex technical problems.

This is not a traditional support role.

You'll become the technical authority for some of the world's most advanced nanoscale measurement systems, working at the intersection of precision mechanics, optics, electronics, software and semiconductor manufacturing.

Working closely with engineering, manufacturing, customer support and applications teams, you'll investigate challenging system issues, drive root cause analysis and help ensure our customers achieve exceptional performance from our technology.

If you enjoy understanding how entire systems behave rather than focusing on a single discipline, we'd love to hear from you. Become the hardware escalation expert

  • Acting as an escalation point for complex hardware and system issues
  • Supporting customer-facing teams with advanced troubleshooting
  • Diagnosing problems across mechanical, optical and electronic subsystems
  • Driving rapid resolution of critical customer issues

Solve challenging system-level problems

  • Investigating performance issues across highly integrated precision systems
  • Reproducing and analysing customer-reported faults
  • Understanding interactions between hardware, software and environmental influences
  • Working closely with control systems specialists to resolve cross-disciplinary issues

Lead root cause investigations

  • Performing detailed failure analysis and technical investigations
  • Identifying corrective and preventative actions
  • Working with engineering teams to implement design improvements
  • Driving improvements to system robustness and reliability

Support manufacturing and product development

  • Working alongside manufacturing and integration teams
  • Troubleshooting issues during assembly and system test
  • Supporting new product introduction activities
  • Contributing to system validation, training and technical documentation

Capture and share technical knowledge

  • Developing troubleshooting procedures and diagnostic workflows
  • Creating best-practice documentation
  • Delivering training to customer support and applications teams
  • Ensuring lessons learned are translated into improved products and processes

Requirements

  • Precision instrumentation
  • Semiconductor equipment
  • Scientific instrumentation
  • Photonics
  • Advanced microscopy
  • Metrology systems
  • Complex electromechanical equipment

You'll bring experience of:

  • Diagnosing complex system issues
  • Precision opto-mechanical assemblies
  • High-stability instrumentation
  • Root cause analysis and failure investigation
  • Working across mechanical, optical, electronic and software domains
  • Explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Supporting demanding technical customers
  • Driving technical problem solving under pressure

We'd be especially interested in hearing from people with experience in:

  • Semiconductor metrology

  • Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)

  • Surface metrology

  • Precision motion systems

  • Nanopositioning systems

  • Scientific imaging systems

  • Advanced microscopy

  • Photonics and optical instrumentation

  • Semiconductor process development

  • Nanoscale measurement technologies

  • Semiconductor fabs

  • Wafer handling systems

  • EFEM modules

  • Robotics and automation

  • Semiconductor manufacturing equipment

  • Advanced metrology platforms

  • Customer-installed scientific instruments

A degree in Physics, Engineering or a related technical discipline would be beneficial.

However, we're equally interested in engineers who have built their expertise through industry experience, apprenticeships or practical hands-on technical careers.
