Job description

Position Description: The Junior Cybersecurity Specialist provides technical support and day-to-day monitoring of alerts and vulnerabilities., * Assignment Location - Executive Office for Immigration Review, 4825 Mark Center Drive, Suite 200, Alexandria, VA 22311

  • Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Typing, communicating, repetitive motions.
  • Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, view computer monitors and read. May need to view presentation screens and other visual aids in a virtual setting.
  • Inside environmental conditions with protection from outside elements.

Security: Ability to obtain/maintain a Federal Civilian Public Trust

  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident that has lived in the United States for at least 3 years

Federal Civilian Public Trust Consists of a review of up to but not limited to:

  • Covers 10 year period and in some instances lifetime events
  • OPM Security Investigations Index (SII)
  • DOD Defense Central Investigations Index (DCII)
  • National Agency Check (NAC) records
  • FBI name check

Acceptable Credentials

Tasks/activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitors security alerts and executes vulnerability scans and remediation tasks daily
  • Identifies potential threats through log review and preliminary analysis
  • Supports deployment of precautionary measures against malicious code
  • Assists in reviewing cyber incident tickets in ServiceNow and JIRA, flagging duplicates or false positives
  • Supports investigation of equipment loss incidents for potential data compromise
  • Executes vulnerability scans using tools such as Tenable and documents remediation activities
  • Reviews audit logs and reports, flagging critical and high vulnerabilities for escalation
  • Supports tracking of remediation efforts
  • Supports monitoring of employee user activity through insider threat detection tools
  • Assists in collecting and cataloging data to identify potentially indicative behavior
  • Supports the Cybersecurity Analyst in maintaining insider threat-related scripts and reporting metrics

Requirements

Minimum/General Experience: 2 - 3 years of vulnerability scanning, remediation, and incident response

Minimum Education: High School diploma, * Above average experience providing day-to-day monitoring of security alerts and the execution of vulnerability scans and remediation tasks

  • Experience with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Endpoint Protection tools
  • Experience identifying potential threats, providing preliminary analysis of logs, and supporting the deployment of precautionary measures
  • Experience assisting in the maintenance of technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Experience documenting the remediation of vulnerabilities found during scanning cycles
  • Knowledge of vulnerability management and scanning operations (e.g., Tenable)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience supporting a federal agency (preferred)
