Job description
- Design of nuclear fuel handling systems and fuel handling sub-systems from requirements through final design review.
- Develop analyses such as thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer, and others, integrating results into plant design delivery.
- Provide design direction related to thermal and fluid design requirements.
- Identify and ensure the effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems (e.g., ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA).
- Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system design.
- Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities and overall plant design delivery.
- Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages, including P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings.
- Coordinate with design disciplines to develop plant design information and specify system performance criteria.
- Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, ensuring delivery of data and conducting technical reviews.
- Establish and maintain system requirements and specifications, such as Engineering Design Specifications for major equipment.
- Propose and initiate testing programs for plant system qualification and oversee test execution and evaluation.
- Generate design packages, including calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
- Develop and review technical design documents such as System Design Descriptions and Interface Control Documents.
- Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports.
- Participate in design reviews as plant system and subsystem designs are established and refined.
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university.
- 5+ years of direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
- Demonstrated experience in designing complex mechanical systems, structures, and equipment, particularly nuclear fuel handling systems.
- Experience performing 3D modeling and creating design drawings.
- High temperature and multi-discipline integration experience highly desired.
- Thermal/CFD experience highly desired.
- Previous experience with nuclear reactors, nuclear fuel handling process systems, or similar high-performance system or equipment design required.
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence.
- Self-starter with the ability to coordinate and lead design teams with minimal direction.
- Ability to manage projects with multiple objectives and resolve conflicts between objectives.
- Experience working under quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.Strong communication skills preferred.
