Job description
The GIS Data Specialist supports Energy & Utilities projects by managing, analyzing, and enhancing geospatial data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with industry standards. This role develops spatial databases, produces highquality mapping deliverables, and builds automated workflows to improve data integration between GIS, CAD, and enterprise systems.
What you will do:
- Manage, analyze, and enhance geospatial datasets to support Energy & Utilities projects.
- Improve survey data handling and utility investigation workflows to meet quality and compliance standards.
- Review, validate, and ensure completeness, consistency, and usability of incoming geospatial data.
- Develop, maintain, and refine spatial databases, schemas, and data structures.
- Produce engineeringquality maps using ArcGIS Pro and BlueSky Lighting NexGen.
- Build, optimize, and troubleshoot FME workflows for data validation, transformation, automation, and integration across CAD, GIS, and enterprise platforms.
- Support internal and external requests for GIS, CAD, and FME deliverables while meeting schedules and quality expectations.
- Document workflows, tools, and processes to ensure consistency and repeatability across the team.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, GIS, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Masters degree preferred but not required (may substitute for years of experience).
- Experience:
- 35+ years of handson experience as an Enterprise Architect or Solutions Architect designing and delivering enterprise-wide solutions (preferred).
- Deep experience designing and implementing enterprise-grade applications and integrations (preferred).
- Licenses/Certifications:
- None required Professional certifications such as TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework), ArchiMate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Certified ScrumMaster or SAFe Architect, or other relevant certifications. (preferred)
- Software:
- Microsoft Suite Products (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc).
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro for data editing and advanced map production.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS Online/Portal, web apps, dashboards, and Field Maps.
- Experience with FME Desktop and Server for automation and integration.
- Preferred: BlueSky Lighting NexGen, utility asset management systems, and Civil 3D.
- Working Conditions/Schedule/Location:
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment with standard office equipment.
- Must be able to work onsite at a WSB office, as needed, up to five days per week, as required by the project, client, or hiring manager.
- Travel or field visits may be required to support project needs or stakeholder collaboration.
- Travel may be required.
