Delight clients. As a Technical Solutions Engineer, you will play a crucial role as a trusted advisor to Apex clients, fostering and nurturing strong relationships. Your primary responsibility will be to understand clients' business objectives thoroughly, providing them with effective solutions and support. You will deliver engineering services both remotely and on-site, catering to Apex offices and client locations. Collaborating closely with Apex Engineers, you will coordinate small-scale projects and work cross-functionally to resolve complex issues. You will proactively monitor and identify potential issues, responding swiftly to alerts to prevent or address service disruptions. Your active involvement with project managers will be essential, as you will participate in developing comprehensive project plans and attend regular status meetings to ensure the successful implementation of solutions. Building and maintaining relationships will require regular collaboration with Apex Client Services and Account Executives. Collectively, you will review monthly reports and derive strategy and solution recommendations based on factual data to meet clients' business needs. Strengthening client relationships will also involve close collaboration with Client Services, Engineering, and other resources, enabling efficient troubleshooting, timely completion of work requests, and successful project execution. You will also participate in the "Engineering Sales Support" group to provide fast and accurate system configurations and pricing information to meet proposal delivery deadlines.
Schedule and Location
This position is based approximately 40% remote and 60% at Apex client locations, and will likely evolve to include occasional time at other local client locations as well as Apex offices. Proper dress is required and includes khaki/dress pants and collared shirts. Primary hours are determined by client needs and generally align with 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with one hour for lunch, with management option to change. The current work week is Monday - Friday, with management option to change.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Apex clients, serving as a trusted advisor.
- Understand clients' business objectives, challenges, and requirements to provide effective solutions and support.
- Collaborate with Apex Client Services and Account Executives to ensure client satisfaction and address any concerns.
- Regularly meet with clients to review monthly reports, gather feedback, and make data-driven recommendations to meet their business needs.
Technical Support and Issue Resolution
- Provide remote and onsite engineering services at Apex offices and client locations.
- Collaborate with Apex Engineers to resolve complex technical issues and ensure timely and effective solutions.
- Serve as the primary resource for handling technical escalations.
- Communicate with high frequency to clients on matters of support.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of customer documentation.
- Monitor systems and proactively identify and address potential issues to prevent service disruptions.
- React promptly to support requests and alert notifications, taking necessary actions to resolve them efficiently.
Project Engineering
- Partner with project managers to translate scope, milestones, and deadlines into actionable field tasks.
- Document as-built configurations, site conditions, and completed work thoroughly, enabling smooth transition to support teams and reducing rework or repeat site visits.
- Coordinate closely with peer engineers and remote support teams during cutovers and maintenance windows, ensuring clear division of responsibilities and minimal disruption to client operations.
- Regularly attend project status meetings to support project managers and peer engineers in technical subject matter.
Sales Engineering and Support
- Collaborate with Account Executives to understand clients' technical requirements and assist in solution design and proposal development.
- Provide technical expertise during client meetings, presentations, and demonstrations to effectively communicate the solutions' value proposition.
- Conduct technical assessments to ensure proposed solutions align with clients' business needs and technical capabilities.
- Assist in creating and reviewing sales documentation, including proposals, statements of work (SOWs), and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with internal teams, such as Client Services and Engineering, to address technical inquiries for solution requests.
- Act as a liaison between the sales team, engineering team, and project managers to ensure a smooth transition from pre-sales to post-sales activities.
- Collaborate with the sales team to provide post-sales technical support, troubleshooting assistance, and guidance to ensure client satisfaction and successful solution adoption.
Collaboration and Teamwork
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Client Services, Engineering, and other resources, to resolve client troubles and fulfill work requests.
- Actively participate in team meetings and share knowledge to strengthen the collective expertise of the organization.
- Other duties as assigned., * Security profile configuration and troubleshooting for Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS).
- SD-WAN design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- WAN optimization and Quality of Service (QoS).
- Application and web content filtering, including SSL interception.
- DNS filtering configuration and troubleshooting.
- Cloud compute platforms including Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform: compute and storage design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Cloud networking design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Cloud backup and disaster recovery, including strategy design, implementation, and testing.
- Cloud resource and cost management practices.
- Windows Server role and feature design, configuration, and troubleshooting, including Active Directory Domain Services and DNS.
- DHCP design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- File and print services design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- IIS web features, including SSL certificate management.
- Docker and Kubernetes container hosting design, deployment, and troubleshooting.
- Virtualization platforms such as Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware, or Proxmox.
- Microsoft 365 and Entra platform design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Information security fundamentals aligned to NIST CSF, CIS Critical Controls, and the ISC2 CBK.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
Requirements
- HPE Aruba Networking Professional certifications.
- Juniper Professional certifications.
- Palo Alto Networks Professional certifications.
- Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) in Secure Networking.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
- Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud Platform certifications.
- ISC2 CISSP, CCSP, or SSCP certifications.
Required Technical Skills
- Multi-vendor routing and switching with HPE Aruba, Juniper, and Cisco network operating systems.
- 802.11 wireless networking design, authentication concepts, and troubleshooting with HPE Aruba, Juniper Mist, or Cisco Meraki platforms.
- Wired and wireless Network Access Control and segmentation design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Dynamic routing protocol design, configuration, and troubleshooting, including OSPF and BGP.
- IPSec and GRE tunnel design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Layer 7 firewall management, including security policy configuration and troubleshooting.
