IPv6 Network Engineer

A senior network engineer with specialization in IPv6 technologies is responsible for leading assessment, design, testing, and implementation initiatives to transition and to support IPv6. This role requires deep technical expertise and hands-on experience with dual-stack environments, multicast routing, and Cisco platforms. The position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless transition to next-generation IP networking while maintaining security and network performance standards., * Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing network infrastructure to evaluate IPv6 readiness across routers, switches, and firewalls.

• Identify gaps in current IPv4 configurations and develop a strategic migration roadmap for IPv6 integration.
• Audit hardware and software compatibility for IPv6 support, validating IOS/IOS-XE features.
• Document current network topology and provide detailed findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Design scalable IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack network solutions ensuring backward compatibility and full IPv6 functionality.
• Develop IPv6 addressing plans and multicast routing architectures, creating high-level and low-level design documents.
• Collaborate with security, systems, and application teams to ensure end-to-end IPv6 compatibility.
• Develop and execute test plans for IPv6 deployment, including tunneling, translation mechanisms, and multicast functionality.
• Troubleshoot complex dual-stack network issues, perform root-cause analysis, and document procedures for production migration.
• Serve as a subject matter expert, mentor junior engineers, and participate in change advisory board reviews for network updates.

• Over 7 years of progressive experience in enterprise or service provider network engineering.
• Proven hands-on experience with IPv6 addressing, routing, and migration strategies.
• Demonstrated expertise designing and operating IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack networks.
• Strong knowledge of multicast routing protocols such as PIM-SM, IGMP, and MLD in both IPv4 and IPv6.
• Cisco CCNP (Enterprise or Service Provider) certification or equivalent industry experience.
• Proficiency with routing protocols including OSPFv2/v3 and BGP (IPv6 address families).
• Hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching platforms.
• Ability to produce clear and professional network design documentation, test plans, and assessment reports.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and experience in complex network environments.
• Strong communication skills for knowledge transfer and stakeholder engagement.
