Job description

Peraton is seeking a Mid-Level Software Test Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The ideal candidate is a versatile and driven professional who can quickly adapt to and support diverse testing projects across Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid methodologies.

This position supports the IRS Enterprise System Testing (EST) program, which provides comprehensive testing and quality assurance services to ensure mission critical IRS applications are secure, reliable, and ready for deployment.

This position is in Lanham, Maryland.

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilites:

  • Conduct functional and/or integration testing of multiple programs in an IBM mainframe, client/server or cloud environment.
  • Proactively identify use cases for test automation within supported projects.
  • Use test automation tools to execute test scripts that validate functional, technical, and performance requirements.
  • Use Government or Contractor-developed documentation to construct test cases with predetermined results and test data to verify program functionality and/or interfaces through assigned systems.
  • Review output to determine whether the test results fulfill the established requirements, and if necessary, notify the responsible programmers, both verbally and in writing, of errors, omissions, and inconsistencies in the programs and/or documentation.
  • Coordinate test activities with project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate work assignments to ensure timely and accurate completion of testing.
  • Train other contractors or government personnel in use of automated testing tools.
  • Execute daily testing responsibilities with initiative and self-motivation, demonstrating eagerness to learn new systems and domains.
  • Adapt rapidly to new concepts and technologies, applying them effectively across ongoing and future testing efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and 5 years of experience or a Masters degree and 3 years of experience or an Associates degree and 7 years of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 9 years of experience
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) with at least three years of continuous U.S. residency.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) clearance
  • Extensive software testing experience
  • Proficient in testing practices within multi-methodology environments
  • Must have knowledge and experience working with and supporting the development of an overall
  • Must have experience preparing comprehensive reports on testing progress/issues and remedial action
  • Hands-on experience with Jira and Xray, familiarity with Atlassian products, version control and collaborative software such as GitHub
  • Experience using test automation tools such as:
  • Selenium
  • UiPath
  • QTP
  • HP-UFT
  • Rational Functional Teste, * Current active IRS MBI Clearance strongly preferred
  • Experience working with the federal government
  • Knowledge of current IRS tax administration software applications
  • Experience with IBM Mainframe or Unisys Mainframe applications and operations
  • Market knowledge of various classes of test automation tools, including low code/code free automated testing tools
  • Exposure to wide automation concepts, framework & best practices from industry in automating mainframe and web applications
  • Demonstrated experience in designing & implementing customized test automation frameworks
  • Experience with the following skills will be considered a significant plus:
  • Hands on experience with technology standards such as: Java, Service Oriented Architecture/Web Services, SQL, XML, Agile Testing Methodology and the ability to proactively respond to emerging technology trends
  • Utilization of Test Tools such as: Jmeter, Junit, Parasoft - LoadTest, Selenium Automated Testing, SOAPUI (free version), INFOConnect, Pegasus, UiPath
  • Deep understanding of: Databricks platform, Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and PySpark dataframes
  • Familiarity with Accessibility Tools such as: Freedom Scientific JAWS; ZoomText; Dragon Naturally Speaking

  • Dental insurance, Target Salary Range: $66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
