Job description

We CGI is looking for a Software Engineer in Test (SWET) to design, build, and maintain automation frameworks across API, UI, and integration layers.

You'll work directly with engineering teams to ensure high quality, reliable, and scalable software delivery.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in automation first environments, understands modern testing tools, and can influence engineering quality from within the development lifecycle.

This position is located on-site in Smithfield, RI.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

. Design and build API automation frameworks using Karate or RestAssured, ensuring robust coverage of service contracts, workflows, and edge cases.

. Develop UI automation suites using Playwright or Cypress, focusing on stability, maintainability, and parallel execution.

. Partner with developers to embed automation into CI/CD pipelines, enabling rapid feedback and continuous quality validation.

. Create reusable test components, utilities, and libraries to accelerate automation across teams.

. Implement test strategies for regression, integration, contract testing, and end to end validation.

. Analyze failures, identify root causes, and collaborate with engineering to drive resolution.

. Contribute to modernization efforts by replacing legacy manual tests with scalable automation.

. Ensure test coverage aligns with engineering standards for reliability, performance, and security.

. Work across multiple concurrent initiatives while maintaining high quality and ownership.

Requirements

At least 6+years of relevant experience of QA test automation engineering with a strong focus on building frameworks.

. Hands on experience with API automation using Karate or Rest Assured.

. Hands on experience with UI automation using Playwright or Cypress.

. Strong programming skills in Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript.

. Experience designing automation for microservices, distributed systems, and REST APIs.

. Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, etc.).

. Experience with Dev Assist tools (automation helpers, code generation, diagramming).

. Experience with SQL and relational databases for validation and test setup.

. Experience with AWS is a plus (Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, API Gateway).

. Experience with performance or load testing tools (JMeter, Gatling) is a plus.

. Experience with containerized test execution (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

Who you are:

You're a test engineer who thinks like a developer. You design automation that scales, build frameworks that last, and embed quality into the engineering lifecycle. You're comfortable working across API, UI, and data layers, and you thrive in environments where speed, reliability, and modernization matter. You communicate clearly, collaborate naturally, and deliver consistently.
