System Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Freelance System Engineer to support the management, maintenance, and optimisation of our IT infrastructure for an initial 8-month contract. You will play a key role in ensuring the stability, security, and performance of both on-premises and cloud-based environments while collaborating with internal IT teams on infrastructure projects and operational support.

This assignment follows a hybrid working model, requiring one day per week onsite in Brussels, with the remaining days worked remotely., * Administer and maintain Windows Server environments.

• Manage and support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint.
• Monitor infrastructure performance and proactively identify and resolve system issues.
• Administer virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
• Manage Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, and identity services.
• Maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
• Support and optimise Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure.
• Configure and troubleshoot networking services, including DNS, DHCP, VPNs, TCP/IP, and firewalls.
• Apply security updates, patches, and endpoint protection solutions.
• Provide 2nd and 3rd line infrastructure support.
• Collaborate with project teams on infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a System Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or Systems Administrator.
• Strong experience with Windows Server administration.
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure.
• Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
• Experience with VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualization technologies.
• Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Good understanding of networking concepts and IT security best practices.
• Experience with PowerShell scripting is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
• Professional proficiency in English. French and/or Dutch is considered an asset., * Microsoft certifications (Azure Administrator, Microsoft 365, Windows Server).
• VMware, Veeam, or other infrastructure-related certifications.
• Experience with infrastructure monitoring and automation tools.
