Job description
Leveraging your deep distributed systems expertise to design, build, and operate core pieces of our next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering, directly impacting the experience of customers worldwide.
- Improve Elasticsearch's components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
- Maintain our cluster coordination system to keep performance high even as nodes join and leave the cluster and data moves around, while preserving safety and liveness properties.
- Push the limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes that Elasticsearch can handle today.
- Investigate performance or concurrency issues, propose solutions.
- Support our support engineers with the harder problems.
- Own operational investigations end-to-end until performance or stability issues are resolved.
Requirements
- Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
- Strong skills in core Java, including standard library data structures, concurrency constructs, and newer language features.
- Deep technical proficiency in algorithms.
- Experience building large-scale distributed systems, not just using off-the-shelf services.
- Experience building and debugging complex features with broad impact, running on multiple machines.
- Ability to own projects from beginning to end, covering technical design and collaboration.
- Experience managing projects involving multiple engineers.
- Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning final outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and teams, and transition between projects, codebases, or teams as business priorities shift.
- Capacity to work autonomously and drive decisions and results in a distributed team via asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication., * Experience with data stores.
- Knowledge of search, analytics, and Lucene.
- Strong knowledge of the JDK.
- Experience with asynchronous event-driven network frameworks such as Netty.

Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary. This role does not have a variable compensation component.

The typical starting salary range for this role is: €80.400 - €127.200 EUR.
