Job description

Lead the development of enterprise-scale software used across the global energy industry.

We're working with an established international software business that develops advanced technology platforms used by some of the world's leading energy companies.

This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team building complex, data-intensive web applications rather than traditional websites or customer-facing marketing platforms.

As Lead Web Developer, you'll combine hands-on software engineering with technical leadership, helping shape architecture, mentor developers and drive engineering excellence across distributed Agile teams.

If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges and want to remain close to the code whilst influencing technical direction, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

You'll play a key part in designing, developing and scaling modern web platforms that process and visualise real-time operational data.

Working alongside Product, Architecture and Operations teams, you'll help define technical direction, improve engineering standards and support the continued evolution of a modern cloud-based software platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and architecture of scalable web applications
  • Build modern applications using React and/or Angular
  • Develop backend services using Node.js or similar technologies
  • Design APIs and integration strategies
  • Work with distributed systems and microservices
  • Improve software performance, resilience and maintainability
  • Support CI/CD and modern engineering practices
  • Mentor and coach developers across distributed teams
  • Drive improvements in engineering standards and development processes
  • Evaluate new technologies and help introduce innovative ways of working

Requirements

You'll ideally have:

  • 8+ years' commercial software development experience
  • Strong React and/or Angular expertise
  • Good backend development experience with Node.js or similar
  • Experience building scalable enterprise applications
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and microservices
  • Experience with API design and integration
  • Exposure to Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar messaging technologies
  • Cloud experience with Azure, AWS or similar
  • CI/CD and Agile development experience
  • Excellent communication and technical leadership skills
  • A genuine passion for mentoring and improving engineering teams

Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, observability tools, .NET/C#, AI-assisted development tools or real-time software platforms would be highly beneficial.

Benefits & conditions

  • Salary of 65,000 to 75,000
  • Flexible and hybrid working
  • Opportunity to influence technical architecture
  • Hands-on leadership role with genuine technical ownership
  • Work on large-scale, enterprise software products
  • Modern technology stack
  • Collaborative international engineering environment
  • Long-term career progression within a growing technology business
