Job description

We are seeking skilled and motivated Sustainability Data Engineer to join our team in Lewes office. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the systems that underpin Falcon's sustainability data management capabilities. You will design and manage data pipelines that ensure information is accurate, secure, and readily accessible for analysis and reporting. Working closely with colleagues, you will support a range of analytical activities while acting as a technical expert and trusted advisor across the business. You will act as a technical resource and guide, both within Falcon and externally with our producers, customers and industry peers., * Support Falcon in GIS based projects including creating geospatial databases that include supply chain and product attributes

  • Support Falcon's compliance with regulation, including the EU's Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), through the meticulous management of data; Guide, develop, maintain, and improve upon the automated flow of data at Falcon (e.g., EUDR); Guide, develop, maintain, and improve upon system for checking potential false positives (e.g., auditing)
  • Understand data privacy (e.g., GDPR) regulation and how to apply it to our management of data
  • Contribute to annual sustainability reporting (e.g., CDP/TCFD/SECR), including the calculation of Falcon's annual GHG emissions figures
  • Coordinate between sustainability and IT on data management
  • Maintain a familiarity with analytical processes within the sustainability department to ensure cross training and provide further support, as needed, The above is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities. The Sustainability Data Engineer may be required to undertake additional ad hoc tasks as reasonably requested in line with the needs and growth of the business.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of relevant professional experience
  • Scientific background and mindset. Degree in STEM is a plus.
  • Programming experience (R/PYTHON)
  • Database design and maintenance experience (POSTGRESQL)
  • Confidence with analytic software and tools. Familiarity with GIS software
  • Knowledge of carbon emissions and modelling
  • Impeccable attention to detail, organised, and structured
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, adaptable.
  • Ability to turn highly technical work into accessible information and guidance
  • Ability to work independently. Great time management skills.
  • An interest in sustainability and the environment
  • Strong appetite for learning new things

Desired Skills/Attributes

  • Understanding of GHG protocol; and carbon accounting practices (scopes) strongly preferred.
  • Love of coffee, * Programming: 5 years (preferred)
  • Database design: 5 years (preferred)
