Job description
We are seeking an IT Infrastructure and Cloud Manager with strong Microsoft Azure, hybrid cloud, enterprise networking, data center, infrastructure automation, and people leadership experience. This newly created group-level role will help centralize and strengthen IT infrastructure capabilities across a portfolio of five medical device manufacturing companies. Based in Chicago, the manager will support the full portfolio and help establish scalable, secure, and consistent infrastructure practices while respecting the operating independence of each business., Cloud Strategy, Architecture & Hosting Help shape and execute a cloud-first infrastructure strategy across public, private, and hybrid environments. Design, implement, and manage enterprise cloud platforms, with a primary focus on Microsoft Azure. Assess workloads for cloud migration, modernization, consolidation, and performance optimization. Establish cloud architecture standards, governance practices, security controls, and operating procedures. Monitor cloud capacity, utilization, performance, and spend to improve reliability and cost efficiency. Lead modernization initiatives that increase scalability, resilience, automation, and operational consistency. Enterprise Infrastructure & Data Center Operations Oversee hybrid infrastructure environments spanning cloud platforms and on-premises data centers. Manage server, compute, virtualization, storage, backup, and supporting data center technologies. Create infrastructure roadmaps, hardware refresh plans, lifecycle standards, and modernization priorities. Support Windows Server and Linux environments and ensure platforms remain secure, stable, and supportable. Maintain current architecture diagrams, standards, operating procedures, inventories, and technical documentation. Network & Identity Services Lead the design, implementation, and operational support of LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, wireless, routing, switching, internet connectivity, and cloud networking. Oversee core infrastructure services, including Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, DNS, DHCP, PKI, and identity and access management. Partner with Cybersecurity to implement Zero Trust principles, strengthen network controls, and address infrastructure risk. Ensure infrastructure services comply with internal security policies, HIPAA requirements, and applicable cybersecurity frameworks. Automation & Platform Engineering Develop an infrastructure automation strategy covering provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, onboarding, offboarding, and operational support. Use Infrastructure-as-Code and standardized deployment practices to improve consistency, speed, and control. Advance scripting, orchestration, and automated management capabilities across enterprise platforms. Establish proactive monitoring, alerting, capacity reporting, and performance dashboards. Partner with End-User Computing and Service Operations to automate service desk and employee lifecycle workflows. Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Develop and maintain infrastructure disaster recovery and business continuity plans in partnership with application and business teams. Oversee enterprise backup platforms, recovery procedures, retention standards, and testing. Conduct recurring disaster recovery exercises and infrastructure resiliency assessments. Track remediation activities and continuously improve recovery readiness. Team Leadership & Operational Excellence Lead, coach, and develop infrastructure engineers, cloud engineers, systems administrators, network specialists, and data center personnel. Manage hiring, performance, workload planning, project prioritization, and professional development for the infrastructure team. Define service standards, operating procedures, availability targets, KPIs, dashboards, and service-level objectives. Drive continuous improvement focused on reliability, security, automation, service quality, and operational maturity. Contribute to enterprise architecture, technology planning, budgeting, and cross-functional IT initiatives. Build trusted relationships with business and technology leaders across five independently operated portfolio companies. Balance group-level standards and shared services with the operational needs and autonomy of each business. Communicate infrastructure priorities, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Vendor, Budget & Technology Management Manage cloud, hosting, telecommunications, hardware, software, and managed service provider relationships. Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend investments that support the infrastructure roadmap. Develop and manage infrastructure budgets, forecasts, licensing, and operating expenses. Support contract negotiations, service-level agreements, procurement, asset management, and lifecycle planning., This Chicago, Illinois-based position is expected to be on-site approximately two to three days per week. The role will require some travel as business needs require. Supervisory Responsibilities Lead the day-to-day operations and development of a small infrastructure team, initially expected to include one to two direct reports. The manager will provide hands-on technical leadership across cloud services, data centers, enterprise networking, identity and access management, virtualization, storage, backup and disaster recovery, infrastructure security, and automation. Success will require strong relationship-building skills, sound judgment, and the ability to earn trust and influence leaders across independently operated businesses. Prior medical technology experience is not required; strong enterprise IT infrastructure experience and the ability to work effectively in a decentralized holding-company environment are more important., Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. At least 8 years of progressive experience supporting and managing enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, networking, and data center operations. At least 2 years of experience leading infrastructure engineering or IT operations professionals. Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and operating Microsoft Azure or another major cloud platform. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 infrastructure, Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, virtualization, enterprise storage, and backup technologies. Strong understanding of enterprise networking, including routing, switching, SD-WAN, VPN, firewalls, wireless, and network security. Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, automation, cloud governance, monitoring, and standardized deployment practices. Working knowledge of ITIL service management and infrastructure operations best practices. Experience supporting regulated environments is helpful, but prior healthcare, medical device, or medical technology experience is not required. Strong leadership, communication, analytical, organizational, and vendor-management skills, with the ability to build credibility, gain trust, and influence across multiple independently operated businesses.
Benefits & conditions
Base salary range: $150,000-$175,000, plus a target annual bonus. Actual compensation will depend on the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and internal equity considerations.
