Job description

Amazon LEO is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

We are seeking a Hardware Test Systems Development Engineer to design, develop, and implement comprehensive test solutions for satellite payload phased array antenna hardware design verification. This role requires expertise in analog/digital hardware systems and design, power design, and automated lab test development. The ideal candidate will enhance our hardware design engineering verification process, ensuring our phased array antenna hardware meets rigorous performance specifications for space applications.

You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and have a drive to deliver results. You'll have relentlessly high standards and be constantly looking for ways to improve. We are looking for individuals who want to reach beyond what is possible today. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats, and work in a highly collaborative environment.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

  • Architect, design, build, and operate hardware test systems for satellite hardware design verification at the bring-up, sub-system, and system levels.
  • Drive alignment with key partners and stakeholders on verification strategy.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to define test requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Build quantitative models (test coverage, reliability, throughput) to inform design trade studies and design modifications.
  • Analyze test data and generate comprehensive test reports with recommendations.
  • Perform root cause analysis on test failures, lead corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement of the test systems.
  • Optimize test coverage, reduce test time, and improve measurement accuracy.
  • Stay current with emerging test technologies and industry standards.

A day in the life Our time is balanced between utilization, critical support, and improvement of existing hardware test systems and designing future systems. This can be hands-on support troubleshooting or utilizing test systems, aligning with partner to define future test needs, and employing engineering best practices and tools. The tasks and daily focus change rapidly, and you will often take on exciting new responsibilities to ensure project success. Expect to address complex problems by diving deep into the data, identifying the scope of the issue, and creating innovative and functional solutions.

About the team The payload team is responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, validation, qualification, and new product introduction to manufacturing for all satellite payloads. These systems will meet performance requirements as well as environmental and reliability requirements. To this end, the payload team collaborates closely with all the partner teams including silicon, power, mechanical, thermal, modem, RF/Coms system, and SW teams.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent

  • Experience with test plan development, building the necessary test bench infrastructure, developing tests and verifying the design
  • 5+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experience
  • 3+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience
  • Experience designing and planning test conditions, test scripts, and test data sets to ensure appropriate and adequate coverage and control
  • Experience using common electronics test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, etc)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience with signal and/or power integrity
