Job description

Provides Data Governance program support and serves as a liaison between business units, data scientists, and technical teams by managing, analyzing, and reporting on data to ensure effective data management and collaboration across the organization.

Basic Functions

  1. Conducts data analysis and assists business units in identifying data governance needs.

  2. Offers support in developing business terms, a business glossary, metadata tags, and managing data catalog and classification functions.

  3. Produces various reports for functional areas.

  4. Collaborates with staff and business units to identify data challenges and provide support in the development of targeted training programs.

  5. Provides role-based access and data security support to ensure data is controlled and accessible to authorized users and departments.

  6. Provides first-level support to business units for Data Governance tools and training when needed.

  7. Collects data quality use cases and high-level requirements, serving as the liaison between the Data Scientist and technical teams.

  8. Assists in the development and implementation of data policies, standards, and regulatory compliance.

  9. Supports business units in creating reports on data metrics and identifying opportunities to enhance data processes through the Data Governance program.

  10. Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out., Data Governance seeks a Data Governance expert to work closely with Product and Engineering teams across the organization to enhance data-driven decision-making by developing processes to solve business problems and promote the utilization of data governance best practices.

Basic Functions

  1. Collaborate with stakeholders in cross-projects and team settings to identify and clarify business or product questions to answer. Provide feedback to translate and refine business questions into tractable analysis, evaluation metrics or mathematical models.

  2. Use custom data infrastructure or existing data models as appropriate, using specialized grip. Design and evaluate models to mathematically express and solve defined problems with limited precedent.

  3. Apply analytics, experimentation, causal inference and Large Language Model (LLM) to address business challenges.

  4. Own the process of gathering, extracting, and compiling data across sources via relevant tools (e.g., SQL, R, Python). Independently format, re-structure or validate data to ensure quality and review the dataset to ensure it is ready for analysis.

  5. Frame and solve ambiguous business problems while researching and developing new methodologies to solve them when needed.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.

  2. 1-3 years of relevant experience supporting business development by identifying challenges and opportunities for improvement within a department.

  3. A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

  4. Proven experience with one of the following systems (Ataccama (preferred) Informatica, Collibra)

Skills

  7. Think and act independently., 1. Master''s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.

  8. 8 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or 6 years of work experience with a PhD degree.

  9. 4 years of experience in predictive modeling.

  10. Experience applying large language models to help solve problems.

Skills

  1. Track record of solving unstructured business problems with data science and translating results into impactful business/product recommendations.

  2. Ability to think critically, analyze complex problems, and develop data-driven solutions.

  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  4. Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire other data science team members.

  5. Proven experience with one of the following systems (Ataccama (preferred) Informatica, Collibra)
