Job description
Reporting to the Sports Information Director, the position is responsible for providing media and statistics coverage for California Lutheran University's student athletes' participating in 22 intercollegiate sports. The Assistant Sports Information Director will coordinate media relations, maintain web communications, archive statistics, and provide publicity for the athletic teams and their athletes. Representative Duties
- Assists the Sports Information Director with in game management and sports media coverage. Mainly nights and weekends for sporting events. E
- Keeps accurate statistics of games and keeps accurate archival records of statistics. E
- Writes and distributes press releases; pitches stories to the media, including hometown newspapers and broadcast media. E
- Coordinates broadcasts and flip-cam video interviews for athletic teams/events. E
- Works with members of the press for coverage of games and student athletes. E
- Writes and edits publications such as game programs, posters, brochures. E
- Updates the Athletics website (www.CLUsports.com). E
- Updates all online sports databases and assists in publishing an e-newsletter. E
- Serves as a liaison with coaches, the Athletic Director, University Relations and other campus offices. E
- Generates story ideas for media, website, CLU Magazine, etc. E
- Supervises and trains work-study students and interns on duties as assigned. E
- Provides photos and video of athletes/athletic events for the website, social media and publications as assigned. E
- Performs other related duties as assigned., * Provide information and services to the campus community, general public and media regarding the athletic teams of the University
- Provide news releases, statistics, updated records, feature story ideas and publications for University sports
- Coordinate student workers (statistical crews)
- Develop interesting, innovative and creative materials related to University sports
- Meet schedules and timelines
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
- Use commonplace office equipment such as copier, fax, scanner, printer, multi-line phone
- Speak and write in English proficiently and clearly to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Maintain focus, accuracy, speed, and high attention to detail in performing repetitive duties

Requirements
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Office, Word and Excel in a professional environment
- Microsoft Outlook email/calendar and web browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox)
- Desktop publishing programs (InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Contribute)
- In-game statistical programs (StatCrew, Automated Scorebook)
- Online and Electronic filing systems
- All 22 intercollegiate sports with keen interest in athletics and a broad knowledge of rules and statistics
- Public relations and customer service techniques
- Professional interpersonal skills of the modern-day workplace using tact, patience, courtesy; and with appropriate sensitivities to people of various orientations
- Fundamental sports terminology and its application
- NCAA rules and rules related to publications
- University printing policy, processes and terminology
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
- Operation of computer terminal and date entry techniques utilizing assigned software
- Oral and written communication skills
Ability To
- Learn and adapt quickly to given policies, procedures, and tasks
- Determine when it is best to work independently, request assistance, or advocate for teamwork with sound judgement
- Professionally write, video and photograph with attention to detail
- Work with both Mac and PC platforms
- Work on deadline and to multitask, Any combination equivalent to: A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Business or related field and experience with In-game statistical programs (StatCrew, Automated Scorebook) and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign)., Experience in NCAA Division III sports information Writing and distributing press releases in the associated press format
