Job description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to support the modernization of a mission-critical government information system. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience developing and maintaining enterprise Java applications and a proven track record of upgrading complex software systems within secure, highly regulated environments. In this role, you will lead modernization efforts across a diverse technology stack, including Apache Solr with Zookeeper, Apache Tomcat, Apache Directory Studio, Oracle 19c, SAP Business Intelligence reporting frameworks, and Java/Python applications deployed on Windows-based VMware infrastructure. The successful candidate will possess strong expertise in secure software development, application modernization, system integration, and Solr index migration and optimization. You will collaborate with security, infrastructure, database, and business stakeholders to ensure successful upgrades with minimal operational disruption., Application Development & Modernization
- Plan and execute technology stack upgrades for enterprise Java applications supporting government programs.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Java- and Python-based application components.
- Modernize and refactor legacy application code to align with current development standards and best practices.
- Implement secure coding practices in compliance with government security requirements.
- Analyze existing systems and recommend improvements for performance, scalability, and maintainability.
Infrastructure & Integration
- Upgrade and maintain Apache Solr environments utilizing Zookeeper coordination services.
- Perform Solr version upgrades, including index migration, optimization, and validation.
- Configure, deploy, and manage applications within Apache Tomcat environments.
- Integrate enterprise applications with Oracle 19c and other relational database systems.
- Support directory services integrations using Apache Directory Studio.
- Design, implement, and maintain SAP Business Intelligence reporting framework integrations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application, database, and infrastructure issues.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Partner with security, infrastructure, database, and business teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Coordinate upgrade activities while minimizing operational impact.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, system configurations, architecture diagrams, and deployment procedures.

Requirements
Clearance Requirement: Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance (U.S. Citizenship required) Preferred Clearance: TS/SCI with current, in-scope Polygraph, * 13+ years of experience in software development, systems engineering, information technology, or a related field with comparable responsibilities.
- Bachelor's degree may substitute for 4 years of experience.
- Master's degree may substitute for 6 years of experience.

Clearance Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required., * Active TS/SCI clearance with a current, in-scope Polygraph.
- Experience with the PrimeFaces UI framework.
- Experience supporting large-scale government modernization or migration initiatives.
- Experience working within classified or highly regulated environments.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and automated deployment pipelines.
Benefits & conditions
- $87,100-157,450 per year, + $69,550-125,725 per year
