Job description

The Product Design Engineer develops innovative consumer products from concept through production. You will collaborate on new product development and redesign projects, create 3D CAD models, oversee prototype builds and testing, partner with sourcing and manufacturing, and drive improvements in performance, quality, manufacturability, and cost., * Partner with Product Management to lead new product development from concept through production launch.

  • Design parts and assemblies using 3D CAD
  • Prototype, test, validate, and refine designs.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, Customer Service
  • Work closely with domestic and international manufacturing partners and their engineering teams to improve manufacturability, reduce costs, and support successful product launches.
  • Develop bills of materials, engineering specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Support cost-reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate field issues and implement engineering solutions.
  • Occasionally travel to suppliers, tradeshows, marketing photo shoots, or field testing (up to 5-10%), * Launch innovative products on time and within cost targets.
  • Improve product quality, customer satisfaction, and manufacturability.
  • Build strong relationships across engineering, operations, and suppliers.
  • Bring creativity and practical problem-solving to every project.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field and/or 2-5 years of mechanical or product design experience
  • Proficiency with modern 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with prototyping, testing, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.
  • Hands-on approach and willingness to work in both office and manufacturing environments (with equipment such as welders, CNC, plasma cutter, press brake, drill press, lathes, hand tools, etc.), * Creo and Windchill experience.
  • Consumer durable goods or lawn & garden product experience.
  • Sheet metal, welded assemblies, plastics, and DFM knowledge.
  • Electromechanical, battery-powered, or hydraulic product experience a plus.
  • ERP, Project Management, and Excel experience.
  • Rapid Prototyping (3D printing)
