Job description

The Riverside Research Information Technology (IT) team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux System Administrator to support teams within the company that deploy software products to Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) networks. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, security, and performance of Linux-based systems and services across our enterprise environment. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, experience with automation, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment supporting critical business systems. This position is located at our Beavercreek, OH office., Installing, configuring, maintaining and supporting Linux clients/servers in physical and virtual environments, ensuring high availability and security compliance.

  • Managing Linux operating systems including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, and other enterprise distributions.
  • Performing operating system upgrades, patch management, and security hardening.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving server, application, storage, and network-related issues.
  • Developing and maintaining automation scripts using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
  • Managing user access integrated with Active Directory, LDAP, or other identity management solutions.
  • Monitoring operations and applications, including using Linux-based logging and monitoring tools to diagnose and resolve performance issues.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and system diagrams.
  • Apply security updates/patches to Linux operating systems
  • Remediating periodic compliance scans
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures
  • Coordinate with tier 3 functional roles within the information technology team as needed
  • Coordinate and communicate all significant information technology changes/outages with the appropriate parties such as the customer, management, and information security
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related field of study
  • 5+ years of experience administering enterprise Linux environments.
  • DoD 8140 - Intermediate Certification (CompTIA Security+ or equivalent).
  • Strong, verifiable experience in Linux system administration, including configuration, patching, user management, and security hardening
  • Experience in automation with Ansible or similar tools
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere
  • Experience working on deployment environments including virtual machines
  • Knowledge of SSH, SCP, TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP and firewalls concepts.
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible team player able to work independently with minimal daily direction; effective/efficient written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work and interact with technically and organizationally diverse personnel

Desired Qualifications:

  • Seeking a candidate that has at least 5 years' experience performing systems administration
  • Experience across traditional IT stack (Clients, Networking, Servers, Storage)
  • Familiarity with enterprise PKI, SSL/TLS certificates, and security compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.
  • Has applied STIGS or CIS Benchmarks to Linux operating systems, Windows operating systems, network devices, ESXi hosts, or required applications.
  • Experience with building systems and maintaining tools such as Bitbucket, Bamboo, GitLab, etc.
  • Experience working/developing in multi-domain, multi-cloud, hybrid-cloud environments
