Job description

Hardware, Acoustical Engineer** **2

The Dell ISG Acoustical Engineering team develops innovative hardware, software, and business solutions to meet the acoustical needs of our Enterprise IT products. Our multidisciplinary team conducts testing, analysis and feasibility studies for new and existing AI, Edge, rack infrastructure, enterprise networking, servers, and storage products. We also engage directly with leading technology partners to drive innovation into components to meet our customers' needs.

Dell has a pedigree as a leader in the industry in developing acoustical methods and metrics across the IT industry and maintains an impressive acoustical laboratory on its Round Rock campus., As an Acoustical Engineer 2, you will be learning from and working with a senior acoustical engineer on a cross-functional team with backgrounds in thermals, simulation, mechanical, and other disciplines. You will help implement Dell's acoustical and Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Dynamics strategy and define the acoustical experience of millions of products across AI, HPC, Enterprise and Storage applications that are deployed into environments that range from home office desks to retail counters, and data centers to street corners. Your primary responsibility will be to evaluate early concept products for acoustical feasibility and design and analyze innovative solutions for acoustical and vibration noise control. You will also ensure that the latest HDD technology, increasingly sensitive to external noise, meets deployment requirements.

You will:

  • Develop and execute acoustic test plans, analyze data, validate product requirements, and provide status updates to cross-functional teams

  • Design and implement acoustic and vibration solutions with internal teams and supplier partners

  • Support product development by following and enhancing acoustic engineering practices, specifications, and standards

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and suppliers to define requirements, drive innovation, and ensure compliance with acoustic and vibration targets

  • Leverage AI tools, conduct user studies, and present findings to optimize acoustics, cost, power, and cooling performance

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (acoustics focus) or equivalent acoustics experience, with strong acoustics and vibration knowledge

  • Hands-on experience conducting acoustic and vibration testing, including measurements with microphones and accelerometers

  • Ability to develop and execute test plans, perform mathematical analysis, and deliver data-driven recommendations

  • Strong project management, communication, and documentation skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and clearly communicate status and risks

  • Proven collaboration, innovation, and problem-solving skills to work across teams and suppliers to achieve technical and business goals

Desirable Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience with rotating machinery acoustics (fans, pumps), acoustic testing/analysis tools (e.g., ArtemiS SUITE), and acoustic simulation software

  • Working knowledge of CREO CAD, AI tools, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow, manufacturing processes, and business presentation skills

About the company

Within ISG, innovation isn't just about creating new technology- it's about challenging assumptions and reimagining how work gets done. Engineers define intent, author precise specifications, and orchestrate AI agents that execute at speed and scale. AI is embedded throughout our development process, helping us move faster, learn quicker, and deliver greater impact. Yet the most important contribution remains uniquely human: deciding what to build, designing how it should work, and applying the judgment needed to earn our customers' trust. When your products power critical infrastructure around the world, that responsibility matters. We move quickly toward the work that matters most. We reward experimentation, encourage bold thinking, and remove unnecessary barriers so great ideas can become reality faster. Our teams embrace a customer-first, first-to-market mindset, transforming rapid feedback into better products and better outcomes. We aren't looking for people who are content with the status quo- we look for builders who question it, improve it, and occasionally rewrite it. If you're energized by solving complex systems challenges, excited to work alongside AI to amplify your impact, and motivated by the opportunity to shape what's next instead of simply maintaining what's been done before, you'll find your place here., Who We Are We believe that each of us has the power to make an impact. That's why we put our team members at the center of everything we do. If you're looking for an opportunity to grow your career with some of the best minds and most advanced tech in the industry, we're looking for you.
