Job description

  • This role supports import compliance operations across North America (U.S., Canada, Mexico) and plays a vital part in ensuring regulatory adherence, data accuracy, and risk mitigation in our global trade activities.
  • The ideal candidate will have direct, hands-on experience working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and/or other North American customs agencies, strong analytical and data manipulation skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-changing trade environment.
  • This is a tactical, high-impact role supporting legal counsel in responding to government requests, modeling tariff impacts, and maintaining compliance documentation., * Provide expert trade and customs compliance support for imports across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
  • Review and respond to government requests regarding classification, valuation, and country of origin.
  • Conduct tariff modeling and scenario analysis to assess the potential impact of new or changing trade regulations.
  • Analyse and interpret large data sets related to import values, bills of materials (BOMs), and forecasts; prepare clear charts and summaries for internal stakeholders.
  • Assist trade counsel in drafting memos, responses, and other compliance documentation.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and advise on trade law changes affecting operations in North America.
  • Support internal stakeholders (supply chain, finance, logistics, tax) in maintaining trade compliance and documentation accuracy.
  • Contribute to projects and database development, such as a country-of-origin repository and process optimization initiatives.
  • Collaborate with team members across North America, APAC, and LATAM, ensuring consistent compliance practices.

Requirements

  • We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Consultant to provide coverage for a key member of the Import Legal team., * 8+ years of relevant legal or trade compliance experience in a law firm, government agency, or in-house legal department.
  • Proven experience with U.S. import compliance, including customs classification, valuation, and origin determination.
  • Familiarity with U.S. CBP, Canada CBSA, or Mexico SAT procedures and regulations.
  • Strong data analysis and modeling skills; ability to manage large data sets and extract actionable insights.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP; experience with automation or scripting tools (AI, Python, SQL) a plus.
  • Experience drafting regulatory or compliance documentation and communicating findings to legal and business partners.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and adapt quickly to evolving trade policies and tariffs.
