Staff Software Engineer

Our Architecture team builds and powers the core infrastructure behind every app, service, and developer across Noom. We're one of the most critical teams in the business, ensuring that everything we build is designed with scalability and quality in mind. As Noom continues to grow across new products and user experiences, our team sets the technical foundation that makes that growth possible., We're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Architecture team and drive technical leadership across our core platform. This role will actively contribute as an IC while helping evolve the backend platform services, from configuration to entitlements to shared data platforms, that every other team at Noom builds on top of.

In the near term, you'll also help refine and drive adoption of fully agentic backend service development across the company. Over the longer term, you'll help define Noom's architecture vision, ensuring our platform can scale in a secure and compliant fashion across new products and user experiences, while cultivating AI expertise to unlock efficiencies across engineering.

You Will

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure backend systems that power Noom's apps and services.
• Evolve core backend platform services, including configuration, entitlements, and shared data platforms, that enable teams across the company to build more compelling user experiences.
• Set architectural vision for Noom's core platform, ensuring alignment with broader engineering standards and long-term product scalability.
• Work cross-functionally (XFN) with technical leaders across the company, digging deeply into technical problems while understanding product needs.
• Refine and drive adoption of agentic backend service development practices across the full engineering organization.
• Leverage AI-driven development tools to enhance the team's velocity and innovation.
• Actively contribute to codebases (50%), drive architectural planning (25%), and provide technical leadership and mentorship (25%).

About You

• Proven experience operating at the Staff-level or equivalent in backend engineering roles, with at least 8-10+ years of experience.
• Backend platform experience at large-scale D2C or B2B2C companies, ideally building for internal engineering audiences.
• Familiarity with distributed systems that operate large-scale, high-volume platforms
• Deep proficiency in Java or Kotlin and experience with the Spring framework.
• Familiarity with relational databases and cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred, but strong experience with at least one major cloud provider required).
• Demonstrated success in architecting scalable, fault-tolerant integrations with external systems.
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence teams across an engineering function.
• Interest or experience in AI-based tooling or development acceleration

The base salary range for this position is $219,000-$258,000. Actual compensation is determined by job-related factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role is based in our Princeton office with a hybrid schedule (2 days per week on-site).
