Job description

The Hardware Operator sets up and operates hardware insertion and related fabrication equipment to install specified hardware into sheet metal workpieces according to blueprints and quality standards. This role verifies proper hardware type and location, prepares hardware pick lists, and works closely with inspection and quality teams to ensure accurate and consistent production. Responsibilities

  • Use prints and blueprints to verify that specified hardware is installed in the correct location on sheet metal workpieces.
  • Align positions and bolt specified dies over the anvil and ram of the machine, ensuring fixtures are correctly positioned in the machine bed.
  • Prepare pick lists for required hardware and accurately subtract used hardware from inventory.
  • Turn knobs and set screws to adjust the depth and pressure limits of the ram stroke to meet job specifications.
  • Deliver the first piece to inspection for verification of dimensions and hardware location before running production quantities.
  • Align holes of workpieces with the anvil of the machine to ensure proper hardware insertion.
  • Position PEMs or other hardware with holes in workpieces over the anvil or against fixtures for accurate insertion.
  • Depress the pedal to lower the ram and insert PEMs or hardware into workpieces following established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Fill hoppers with PEMs or hardware when operating semiautomatic machines to maintain continuous production flow.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to determine hardware type, location, and installation requirements.
  • Assist and support other areas in the department as needed, including collaborating with the Quality Department and nearby fabrication operations.
  • Bend, lift, load, and unload workpieces into the machine, and move between workstations while alternating between sitting and standing.
  • Lift objects up to 50 pounds throughout the day and perform repetitive work for more than 8 hours per day and on weekends as required.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety guidelines.
  • Distinguish colors as needed for hardware identification or blueprint interpretation.

The Hardware Department is located adjacent to Press Brakes, Turrets, and the Quality Department in a clean, organized shop setting. Team members work closely with fabrication and quality operations, using blueprints and hardware insertion equipment such as Haeger machines and related tools. The role is on 2nd shift (3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.), and requires wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. The environment involves frequent bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, loading and unloading workpieces, moving between workstations, and performing repetitive tasks over extended periods. Candidates should be comfortable working near heavy fabrication equipment and supporting other areas as needed. Job Type & Location

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience as a Hardware Operator, PEM setter, or in hardware insertion operations.
  • Background working with sheet metal fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with Haeger machines; 2+ years of experience setting up and operating Haeger machines is preferred.
  • Experience with riveting and punch press operations.
  • Ability to work in close proximity to Press Brakes, Turrets, and Quality Department and assist in other areas when needed.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
