Job description

AWS customers trust that their security works correctly and consistently across every service they use. The Auth Consistency team exists to validate and uphold that trust.

As a Software Development Manager on the Auth Consistency team, you'll lead engineers who build the tools, frameworks, and mechanisms that verify authentication and authorization correctness at AWS scale. This is a high-visibility role with direct engagement from senior leadership, because the problem you're solving is one customers care deeply about: knowing that their security posture is correct no matter which AWS services they use.

This team is at an exciting inflection point. AI opens new frontiers for how we approach testing, coverage, and verification at scale. There is significant opportunity to pioneer novel AI-driven approaches to generating test cases, expanding coverage in ways that were previously impractical, and helping remediate issues faster. You'll have the mandate to explore and invest in these directions.

If you're passionate about security, quality, AI-driven innovation, and building a team that raises the bar, we want to talk to you.

Key job responsibilities

  • People leadership. Hire, develop, and retain a team of software and security engineers. Set clear goals, provide regular feedback, and grow engineers into their next roles.

  • Technical strategy. Define and evolve the team's approach to testing, validating, and measuring consistency and correctness across hundreds of AWS services. Partner with principal engineers to set long-term direction.

  • Delivery and execution. Own the team's roadmap. Prioritize testing coverage, tooling improvements, and consistency initiatives. Deliver results that demonstrably improve the auth correctness posture of AWS.

  • AI and innovation. Identify and invest in opportunities to apply AI. Explore novel approaches to test generation, coverage analysis, anomaly detection, and automated verification.

  • Cross-org influence. Work with teams across AWS to drive remediation. Communicate findings to senior leadership and influence teams to adopt best practices.

  • Operational excellence. Build mechanisms that surface findings early and track resolution. Drive continuous improvement in how AWS measures and maintains correctness

  • Customer trust. Keep the customer's perspective at the center of everything. Your team's efforts directly improve our customers' experience and security.

A day in the life As you lead your team, you'll set priorities, review results, and drive action on findings. You'll also:

  • Partner with service teams to explain findings and drive remediation
  • Present consistency metrics and progress to senior leadership
  • Coach engineers on building scalable test frameworks and automation
  • Drive design discussions for new testing approaches and coverage expansion
  • Identify patterns in inconsistencies and advocate for systemic fixes
  • Evaluate emerging AI techniques for applicability to auth verification problems

About the team The Auth Consistency team is part of IAM Data Plane within AWS Identity. Our mission is to ensure that authentication and authorization work correctly and consistently across every AWS service. We build the testing infrastructure, run validation campaigns, and drive remediation when we find gaps.

This team has high visibility with senior leadership because the problem we solve is fundamental to customer trust. When customers configure IAM policies, they expect those policies to behave identically regardless of which AWS service they interact with. We are the team that ensures this expectation holds true.
