The Senior Enterprise Applications Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, upgrade, and ongoing support of the firm's core enterprise applications and their underlying server environments, both on-premises and in the cloud. This role serves as third-level support for the end-user applications tied to those platforms and is accountable for their stability, performance, and security. The Senior Enterprise Applications Engineer partners closely with software vendors, internal technology teams, and firm staff to ensure clear, proactive communication, timely issue resolution, and a consistently high-quality user experience. The role works in close partnership with the Data Platforms and Infrastructure teams to support the firm's applications end-to-end. This role has a remote working arrangement. Potential candidates must reside within one of the 10 states in which we have a physical office. In this role, you will report to the Director of Enterprise Applications and Development. Essential Functions
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain the firm's core enterprise applications and their supporting server environments across on-premises and cloud platforms.
- Provide third-level support for enterprise applications, working directly with end users, internal technical teams, and vendors to diagnose and resolve complex issues.
- Serve as the technical lead on assigned projects, partnering with project managers to drive delivery forward. Owning technical direction, design decisions, and execution while the PM manages scope, schedule, and stakeholder coordination.
- Evaluate, pilot, and help operationalize emerging AI capabilities across the firm's cloud and enterprise application portfolio, supporting Blank Rome's position at the forefront of legal technology innovation.
- Design and implement end-to-end solutions for new business opportunities and application enhancements, from requirements through deployment and transition to operational support.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability; identify, test, and coordinate improvements or upgrades and verify results.
- Ensure applications and supporting infrastructure are configured and maintained in line with the firm's security and compliance standards.
- Coordinate problem resolution with vendors, internal teams, and firm staff, and keep management informed of significant issues, risks, and recommended solutions.
- Partner with the Infrastructure team on server, network, storage, and identity dependencies that support the enterprise application portfolio.
- Partner with the Data Platforms team on integrations, reporting, and analytics needs tied to the applications this role supports.
- Support integrations between enterprise applications and other internal or external systems, including triaging integration failures, identifying data issues, and partnering with the Data Platforms team on resolution and long-term remediation as needed.
- Prepare regular status reports for management on progress toward objectives, project milestones, and operational health.
- Research and recommend new products, tools, and methodologies to advance the enterprise application roadmap.
- Aid end users by helping to identify and resolve application issues, and train users on the software they support as needed.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
- Work additional hours as needed to fulfill job requirements.
Requirements
- 10+ years of enterprise application experience, spanning operational support and leading the technical execution of projects.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical education preferred.
- Experience in a legal environment or professional services preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing and supporting major enterprise applications through their full lifecycle (install, configure, upgrade, integrate, and support).
- Experience serving as a technical lead on cross-functional projects, partnering with project managers and business stakeholders to drive delivery.
- Sophisticated troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose issues that span applications, servers, integrations, and identity/authentication.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred) and experience supporting applications in hybrid on-premises and cloud environments.
- Familiarity with modern integration and automation platforms (e.g., Intapp Integration Builder, Boomi, or comparable platforms).
- Awareness of emerging AI capabilities in enterprise and legal technology platforms, with an interest in evaluating and piloting new features.
- Working knowledge of SQL is expected for troubleshooting and cross-team collaboration; candidates with stronger T-SQL skills (queries, views, and stored procedures) are strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with reporting and analytics tools such as Power BI (on-premises and online).
- Experience with current Windows Server operating systems and Windows 11 client environments.
- Familiarity with third-party monitoring and observability tools used to track application and server health.
- Commitment to following the Technology Department's ITSM procedures and best practices, including change, incident, and problem management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships across technical and business teams, in-person and virtually.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies across a range of initiatives.
- Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables with strong organizational skills.
