Job description
We are presently recruiting for a Senior Application Engineer who will be part of the Distech Controls Enterprise Solutions team (DCES). You will be responsible for developing and delivering control system solutions for our strategic customers. As the senior member of the project team, you will be leading the design and software engineering activities to support the successful implementation of large and/or multi-site building automation projects.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Application Engineer will work with Project Managers and Application Engineers to deliver a high level of consistency in engineering and project delivery of our Strategic Account Customer projects.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Develop and manage control submittal packages that meet project specifications and scope
- Create installation drawings outlining all required field wiring, part selection, controller IO assignment, panel layout, and sequence of operation required for project completion
- Translate Building Automation and Control System requirements and specifications into solutions to successfully meet customer needs as well as create competitive advantage through innovative design and implementation
- Identify potential areas for improvement within the existing engineering process and tool library
- Coordinate with customers to ensure expectations and requirements are met with the engineered solution
- Assist sales with developing realistic estimates for engineering effort required based on project scope, specifications, and drawings
- Work closely with project managers, other application engineers, and Cx field engineers to align engineering activities with respect to project schedule and budget
- Meet with other application engineers to ensure complete understanding of project design for programming, graphics, and commissioning efforts
- Provide assistance in troubleshooting installation issues during the startup and commissioning of building controls and systems
- Develop and refine engineering processes, standards, and associated documentation to increase efficiency and productivity at scale while maintaining or improving quality
- Provide cross-functional support to other parts of the DCES business, such as Sales, Service, and other Project Teams
- Engage with customers to enhance their experience with the Distech Controls Enterprise Solutions team
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or 5+ years of related experience
- 5+ years in Building Automation Systems (BAS) or a related field, including drawing developmentProficient with Visio, AutoCAD, and other drafting software
- Experience developing complete BMS/control submittal packages for new and retrofit projects
- Ability to manage multiple deliverables and project documentation simultaneously
- Self-motivated with strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work effectively in a remote/home-office environment
- Current passport and willingness to travel up to 40%
- Experience selecting control components and managing project bill of materials (BOM)
- Knowledge of energy-saving control sequences, including ASHRAE Guideline 36
- Familiarity with control panel design and building control systems
- Applied understanding of computer networking and software troubleshooting
- Strong knowledge of BAS communication protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, and LON
- Experience reviewing drawings, specifications, site audits, and existing control systems
- Experience auditing existing building controls and managing RFIs
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, automated controls, and building operations
- Ability to read and troubleshoot electrical and electronic wiring diagrams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, customer-focused approach
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in Visio is required; experience with AutoCAD is preferred
- Niagara AX and N4 Framework
- Distech Controllers and related hardware devices
Benefits & conditions
The range for this position is $66,500.00 to $143,600.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant's experience and geographic location.
