Job description

  • Lead a single delivery team of around 5 to 8 engineers, including embedded QA
  • Own the teams delivery end to end and grow every person in the team
  • Stay technically credible while leading the team
  • Run ceremonies that produce real outcomes, including standups, planning, and retrospectives
  • Own sprint and quarterly commitments, surfacing risk early and honestly
  • Break complex features into team-sized work
  • Manage team capacity properly, including explicit space for tech debt
  • Lead regular 1-2-1s and honest development conversations
  • Support hiring against a competency matrix
  • Own the teams on-call rota and incident resolution
  • Make sound day-to-day technical decisions and record significant ones as ADRs
  • Partner closely with Product on team commitments and priorities
  • Escalate cross-team risk and capacity conflicts before they become misses

We are partnering on an exclusive Tech Lead search for an established, market-leading business operating mission-critical devices deployed at national scale in a regulated, high-volume payments environment. This is a genuine leadership role, not a title in waiting, and it offers a fully remote working model in the UK with a salary of £90,000 plus excellent benefits. We are looking for someone who wants deep technical work alongside real people leadership, with responsibility for a delivery team of around 5 to 8 engineers. The role requires ILR or a British passport, no sponsorship is available, and the position is subject to background checks. Immediate availability is preferred, with a maximum notice period of 4 weeks.

Requirements

  • Strong production C# and .NET 7 experience, not hobby-level
  • .NET MAUI experience for Android, or strong Xamarin/native Android experience with readiness to move to MAUI
  • Android platform development experience, including activities/intents, lifecycle, background execution limits, device-owner APIs, and MDM/EMM concepts
  • Hands-on device and hardware integration experience, including scanners, imagers, card readers, printers, serial, and GPS
  • Proven ownership of a delivery teams outcomes, including sprint commitments, quality, and operational health
  • Real people leadership experience, including regular 1-2-1s, developmental feedback, and hiring input
  • Experience owning on-call and incidents through to resolution
  • Comfort working in a regulated, high-throughput product environment
  • Honest and early risk communication as a habit
  • Strong messaging and communications experience, including MQTT, HTTP clients, and offline/online state handling
  • Experience with logging and observability tools, ideally log4net and structured logging / OpenTelemetry / OTLP
  • Native interop experience, including JNI, Android binding libraries, and P/Invoke
  • Experience with SQLite, XML-based configuration, and key-value stores
  • Strong technical judgement without escalating every decision
  • Ability to work UK hours with high-level written and spoken English
  • Must hold ILR or a British passport; no sponsorship available
