Job description
A large retail company is seeking an experienced Payment Systems Engineer (.NET) with strong .NET/C# expertise for a hybrid role based in Lincolnshire, IL, where candidates are required to work in the Lincolnshire office 2-3 days per week. This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining secure, high-performance payment platforms by developing reliable transaction processing systems using .NET, C#, and ASP.NET Core, building RESTful APIs and microservices, integrating with payment gateways and banks, ensuring high availability and scalability, implementing PCI DSS compliant secure handling of sensitive payment data, monitoring transaction flows, troubleshooting production issues, and improving reconciliation and settlement processes.
Requirements
Strong experience with C#, .NET, and ASP.NET Core for backend development
- Experience in retail and multi-channel payments (POS, e-commerce, mobile, and alternative payment methods)
- Hands-on experience building RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed backend systems
- Proficiency with relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL)
- Solid knowledge of secure coding practices, encryption, authentication, and PCI DSS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for mission-critical systems
Nice to Have Skills & Experience
- Experience with payment processors or gateways (Stripe, Adyen, PayPal, Fiserv, Authorize.net, etc.)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) and cloud-native .NET applications
- Knowledge of messaging systems such as Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, or Kafka
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Background in fintech or financial services
- Familiarity with SOX or other financial compliance standards
