Job description
Design, develop, test, and maintain back-end services, RESTful APIs, and microservices using Java and the Spring framework.Implement enhancements and new features for mission-critical, customer-facing applications as part of an Agile delivery team.Diagnose high-severity production defects and develop and deploy rapid hotfixes to minimize downtime.Develop comprehensive automated unit tests in alignment with organizational standards and leverage tools such as SonarQube to drive continuous improvement in code quality.Build, deploy, and operate application components in the cloud, and support performance, scalability, and reliability.Modernize and upgrade legacy applications to enable cloud migration, including leading technical discovery, estimating upgrade effort, identifying dependencies, and creating development tickets.Develop reusable frameworks and patterns that accelerate the development and maintenance of web services and future project delivery.Contribute to and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support consistent, automated builds, testing, and deployments.Support release, regression, and user acceptance testing activities and assist with deployment coordination.Create and maintain technical documentation, including design notes, deployment guides, and knowledge base content.Participate in Agile/SAFe ceremonies and collaborate with product owners, testers, and operations staff to improve delivery and system quality.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.4+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on back-end systems.Strong hands-on experience developing with Java and the Spring framework (Spring Boot, Spring Data, and Spring MVC).Demonstrated experience designing and implementing RESTful web services and microservice architectures.Hands-on experience developing, deploying, and operating applications in a public cloud environment, including core compute, storage, serverless, and API services.Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL) and ORM technologies such as Hibernate.Proficiency writing automated unit tests (JUnit/Mockito) and using static analysis tools (e.g., SonarQube) to drive code quality.Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD tooling (e.g., Jenkins).Experience delivering in Agile or SAFe environments, including participation in sprint planning, estimation, and demos.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across development, testing, and operations teams.Experience with Animal and Plant Health certificates, including the development or support of systems that issue veterinary export health certificates and phytosanitary (plant health) certificates (e.g., USDA APHIS certification systems).US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Public Trust background investigation., AWS certification such as AWS Certified Developer - Associate or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, with hands-on experience across services such as Lambda, API Gateway, CloudWatch, EC2, and S3.Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.Certified SAFe® Agilist (SAFe 6) or equivalent Agile certification.Experience modernizing and upgrading legacy applications to enable cloud migration, including technical discovery, effort estimation, and dependency analysis.Familiarity with front-end web technologies such as React or Angular.Working knowledge of additional languages such as Python, JavaScript, or C++.Prior experience supporting federal government IT programs.
