Job description
Secrets team, within the Data Security org, is looking for a Principal Software Engineer. As a technical leader on the team, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing robust secrets management solutions. You will lead multiple initiatives in parallel, mentor junior engineers via code reviews and technical guidance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance our security posture and streamline operations. You will work on building solutions for challenging problem statements to improve our service availability and performance. This is a highly hands-on leadership role where you will actively write code, tackle complex technical challenges, and lead by example.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Architect the Future of Secrets Management: Define and lead the technical roadmap for our core Secrets product, spearheading the architecture for highly secure, multi-cloud Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments tailored strictly for secret storage, access, and distribution.
- Champion Mission-Critical Reliability: Own the end-to-end lifecycle of highly sensitive, "Tier 0" systems. Architect profoundly scalable, self-healing services that guarantee zero-downtime access to secrets, resolving complex distributed system issues to ensure unwavering resilience.
- Advance Cryptography & Zero-Trust Identity: Serve as a domain expert in PKI, X.509, and cryptography. Continuously evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to pioneer new approaches for dynamic secret generation, automated key rotation, device identity, and zero-trust authentication.
- Innovate Secure Secret Distribution: Lead research and development efforts to prototype and deploy cutting-edge features for secure credential delivery. Enable highly secure real-time and non-real-time peer-to-peer communication across heterogeneous networks, ensuring strict access controls and minimizing blast radius.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering required; Masters degree preferred.
- 12+ years of hands-on experience working in a software development role in a product based software technology company.
- 8+ years experience in development in public cloud environments (AWS preferred; GCP a plus)
- Hands-On Engineering & Data: Deep, hands-on programming expertise in Golang, Java, C#, Python, Rust, or C/C++ with a proven track record of designing highly available, scalable data tiers using relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Postgres, DynamoDB, Cassandra).
- Cloud-Native Architecture & Infrastructure: Advanced command of cloud computing paradigms, encompassing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and core distributed networking (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing).
- Security & Open Source: Applied knowledge of cloud security design, Secrets Management (Hashicorp Vault experience is a plus), PKI/X.509, and OWASP principles.
- Architecture & Leadership: Proven ability to translate strategic vision into tactical architecture, paired with strong cross-functional leadership and excellent problem solving skills.
