Job description

Within our Technology team, you'll help design, build and operate Azure-based services that are secure, resilient and easy to support. You'll work closely with colleagues across engineering, service and delivery teams to improve cloud platform reliability, automate routine activity and support better outcomes for our members.

  • Design, deliver and automate Azure-based solutions in line with platform standards, security requirements and service reliability expectations.
  • Deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code, particularly Terraform, reusable modules, source control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Monitor service health, respond to alerts, troubleshoot incidents and contribute to root cause analysis and ongoing service improvement.
  • Improve observability across Azure services through effective logging, monitoring, alerting and operational dashboards.
  • Support the migration of existing systems to Azure and the deployment of new cloud-based services using repeatable, well-documented approaches.
  • Identify opportunities to automate routine tasks, reduce manual effort and improve the reliability, security, scalability and cost efficiency of cloud platform operations.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to support scripting, troubleshooting, documentation and knowledge discovery, validating outputs against organisational standards.

We work in a hybrid way, balancing flexibility with collaboration. For this role, you'll typically spend three days a week in our Skipton office, with the remaining two days working from home.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience supporting or delivering services in Microsoft Azure across IaaS, PaaS or SaaS capabilities.
  • Practical experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, ideally Terraform, including creating, updating or maintaining Azure infrastructure definitions.
  • Awareness of CI/CD practices and experience working with source control, pull requests, code reviews or automated deployment pipelines.
  • Good understanding of service availability, monitoring, alerting, incident response and operational support in a cloud environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Azure platform issues, investigate root causes and deliver practical, sustainable fixes. We welcome graduates and aspiring cloud engineers, with some practical Azure experience advantageous.
  • Understanding of cloud networking and security concepts, such as virtual networks, DNS, routing, firewalls, identity management, encryption, policy enforcement and least-privilege access.
  • A collaborative, growth-minded approach, with clear communication skills and curiosity about using AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly and securely.

Benefits & conditions

At Skipton, we offer pay and benefits that really do make life better, together with a genuine thank you for making a difference.

  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme
  • 25 days standard annual leave + bank holidays + rising 1 day per year of service to a max of 30 days
  • Matching employer pension contribution (up to 10% per annum)
  • Colleague Mortgages and access to Skipton products and services at discounted rates
  • Flexible working to help balance your commitments
  • Private medical insurance, health and wellbeing app, volunteering opportunities, cycle-to-work scheme, discounted gym memberships
  • Lifestyle perks such as a Home and Tech voucher, which can be used at Currys, and IKEA

About the company
