Job description
Your mission is to build and own the technical foundation that powers Neon's consumer product and data business. This is a unique opportunity to be one of the first engineers on the team, working directly with the founder to shape both the product and the company. The ideal candidate is hands-on, entrepreneurial, and comfortable moving quickly in an environment where decisions have a direct impact on the future of the business. You'll partner closely with our Head of Mobile Product., * Design, build, and maintain customer-facing mobile applications using React Native (JavaScript/TypeScript) or native iOS/Android (SwiftUI, Objective-C, Kotlin).
- Architect, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) to support growth and reliability.
- Own architectural decisions across system design, including scalability, security, and fault tolerance.
- Work across the full stack, contributing to our customer-facing mobile apps (React Native, or native iOS/Android) as the product requires.
- Build and provide technical oversight for the data pipelines and delivery workflows at the heart of Neon's data business.
- Establish engineering best practices, including testing, CI/CD, and monitoring.
- Collaborate closely with the founding team on product direction, roadmap, and customer feedback.
- Take ownership of projects end-to-end, balancing speed of execution with technical excellence.
Requirements
- Authorization to work in the US.
- Hands-on engineering depth. You're a builder first. You write production code daily, make the big architectural calls, and implement them yourself. A small team means no room for pure management.
- VoIP and real-time communications expertise. You've implemented VoIP, SIP, or WebRTC in a real product and know the messy reality of call quality, carrier constraints, and latency at scale.
- Deep mobile experience. 4+ years building and releasing consumer mobile apps on iOS and Android, with significant experience in cross-platform development and React Native.
- Native mobile proficiency. Meaningful hands-on experience with Swift, Kotlin, Java, or Objective-C.
- Pragmatic speed. You ship a solid v1 today rather than waiting for a perfect v2 next month. You actively avoid over-engineering and have a strong instinct for the right level of investment at each stage.
- Full-stack flexibility. You're comfortable in the backend APIs and services that power the mobile experience, not just the UI layer.
- Data operations literacy. You understand data pipelines, quality standards, and delivery workflows well enough to provide meaningful technical oversight, even where execution is handled by partners or specialists.
Bonus points
- Prior startup experience building in early-stage environments where you had to balance speed with the stability a consumer app demands.
- Familiarity with audio data pipelines, WebRTC-based recording architectures, or dataset delivery workflows for AI training.
- Telecom or CPaaS background with a deep understanding of global communications infrastructure.
- International experience building apps for non-US markets, including fragmentation, localization, and varying network conditions.
