Job description
We are hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to guide essential teams supporting the Akamai Compute platform's integration layer. This role involves shaping strategy, improving SDLC, and advancing service architecture. Responsibilities include overseeing Team Leads, Engineers, and Managers while delivering reliable, scalable, and secure solutions for diverse consumers.
As a Senior Manager Engineering, you will be responsible for:
- Driving the strategic direction and roadmap for Akamai Compute's customer-facing API and internal backend orchestration and support services.
- Driving the architectural shift of these services to container orchestration and modular designs, enabling horizontal scalability and granular component ownership.
- Establishing mechanisms to audit software lifecycles, enhancing service reliability, improving observability, and ensuring robust security for Akamai Compute.
- Partnering with Product Management, SRE, Engineering leaders, SDET and various product teams to define requirements, integrate new features, and drive consistent, intuitive user experiences.
- Fostering a growth-oriented, inclusive, and respectful culture. Mentor Senior and Principal engineers, drive technical leadership, and promote knowledge sharing across the organization.
Requirements
- Have 10 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent
- Demonstrate experience managing high-performing engineering teams in a cloud-engineering and web services environment
- Possess background in architectural design, particularly with distributed systems, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and backend service integration.
- Have track record of driving large-scale migrations, such as moving services to containerized orchestration or modularizing legacy systems to support business demand.
- Have experience ensuring security, performance, and reliability (e.g., container scanning, managing single points of failure, disaster recovery planning) in mission-critical environments.
- Have ability to communicate openly and respectfully, fostering a culture of ownership, integrity, and constructive collaboration across diverse stakeholders.
Benefits & conditions
Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $173,900 - $313,100/year; a candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
