Job description

They're looking for an experienced Platform Engineer to join a specialist Analytics Engineering team, taking ownership of the infrastructure that powers a business-critical High Performance Computing (HPC) environment.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges. Rather than building cloud-native application platforms, you'll be responsible for ensuring a high-performance compute environment remains secure, reliable and scalable, while introducing automation and modern engineering practices to support future growth.

Working closely with Software Engineers, Data Scientists and Actuaries, you'll play a key role in evolving the platform, improving performance and resilience, and helping shape its long-term direction.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting and enhancing a High Performance Computing (HPC) platform used for large-scale analytical workloads
  • Managing Windows-based infrastructure, compute clusters, storage and networking
  • Driving automation and Infrastructure as Code to improve platform consistency and efficiency
  • Building and improving CI/CD processes and operational tooling
  • Monitoring platform performance, availability and capacity, identifying opportunities for optimisation
  • Working alongside engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable platform services
  • Contributing to platform improvements, technical research and Proofs of Concept

Technical Environment

  • Microsoft HPC/Windows Server
  • High Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Compute Clusters & Distributed Systems
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Active Directory/Microsoft Entra
  • Storage & Networking
  • PowerShell
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Bicep)
  • Azure DevOps/CI/CD
  • Ansible or Puppet
  • Docker/Kubernetes (beneficial)

Requirements

We're interested in speaking with Infrastructure or Platform Engineers who have experience supporting High Performance Computing or other compute-intensive environments.

You'll have a strong understanding of Windows infrastructure, distributed systems and platform reliability, alongside experience introducing automation and modern engineering practices.

Experience within insurance or financial services would be beneficial, although backgrounds in scientific computing, engineering simulation, research computing or other performance-critical environments would also be highly relevant.
