Job description

The Software Engineer will be responsible for the development, support and continuous improvement of digital services, data platforms and business-critical applications. Reporting to the Engineering Team Lead, you will work closely with Architecture, Product and Delivery teams to design, build and maintain secure, scalable and reliable technology solutions that support business objectives and technology strategy. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to work with cloud technologies, modern engineering practices and data-driven solutions whilst contributing to the ongoing evolution of the technology estate.

Duties will include the following:

  • Deliver secure, scalable and reliable digital solutions, including data-centric applications, services and APIs, that meet business requirements and provide sustainable business value
  • Design, optimise and support databases, data models and data services to ensure data quality, accessibility, performance and operational resilience
  • Implement cloud-based and hybrid technology solutions that align with architectural standards, security requirements and long-term platform objectives
  • Translate architectural designs and business requirements into robust technical solutions, ensuring consistency with engineering standards and best practice
  • Improve engineering quality and delivery efficiency through automation, testing, CI/CD pipelines and the continuous enhancement of development practices
  • Maintain service availability and operational stability through effective support, incident resolution and problem management activities
  • Keep technical knowledge current by monitoring emerging technologies and engineering practices, identifying opportunities to improve organisational capability and delivery outcomes

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of software development principles, design patterns and engineering best practice
  • Experience of data modelling, database design and data architecture principles
  • Good understanding of security, risk management and compliance standards relevant to software development
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages, including .NET technologies
  • Strong SQL development, optimisation and performance tuning skills
  • Excellent technical design, problem-solving and solution implementation skills
  • Effective stakeholder collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience building and supporting enterprise applications and services and working within Agile delivery frameworks
  • Experience delivering cloud-based solutions using Azure or AWS, including data pipelines, analytics and database services and supporting application modernisation, migration or cloud adoption initiatives
