Job description
Position Overview: our client is seeking a Contract Web Hosting Infrastructure Engineer to support the lifecycle management and migration of websites hosted on our on-premises Microsoft web platform. This role will be part of the IT Operations / Application Administration team. This is a hands-on execution role centered on moving websites and applications from Windows Server 2016 environments to Windows Server 2022. The successful candidate will work from a well-defined migration queue, follow established processes, execute PowerShell and Ansible workflows, update F5 load-balancing configurations, coordinate DNS cutovers, and support application testing. The work is structured, detailed, and repeatable. This role is a strong fit for an engineer who takes pride in executing operational work accurately, consistently, and through completion. We are looking for someone who is comfortable following established standards, managing technical details, communicating status clearly, and helping the team complete a substantial body of lifecycle work. This position is hybrid and based in our downtown Milwaukee office, with an expectation of working on-site 3 days per week.
Responsibilities: Website and Server Migrations Execute assigned website and application migrations from Windows Server 2016 to Windows Server 2022. Follow established migration plans, procedures, standards, and checklists. Run existing Ansible workflows and PowerShell scripts used to configure and migrate web-hosting environments. Validate IIS website, application pool, binding, authentication, and related configuration. Support the migration of primarily .NET Core applications, along with vendor-provided web products. Coordinate migration activities with Application Administration team members, application owners, and testing teams. Track assigned work through completion and document migration results, issues, and follow-up actions. DNS and Load-Balancing Changes Create and modify F5 LTM pools and related configuration as required for website migrations. Understand load-balancing concepts sufficiently to validate configuration and support application cutovers. Coordinate and execute DNS changes to direct traffic from legacy environments to replacement servers. Validate connectivity and application behavior before and after cutover. Follow established change-management and rollback procedures. Identity and Application Configuration Work with Active Directory identities, service accounts, and application authentication requirements. Understand and troubleshoot common Kerberos and Windows-integrated authentication issues. Validate that required identities and permissions are in place before migration. Escalate application, authentication, or environmental issues to the appropriate engineer or application owner. Collaboration and Execution Work primarily with members of the Application Administration team while coordinating as needed with application owners and testing teams. Communicate progress, risks, blockers, and migration outcomes clearly. Follow established operating procedures while identifying gaps or unclear instructions for the team to address. Manage multiple assigned migrations and maintain accurate status in the team's work-management tools. Demonstrate reliable follow-through, attention to detail, and ownership of assigned work. Participate in weekday cutovers that may occasionally extend through approximately 5:30 p.m. No regular evening, weekend, or on-call support is required.
