Job description
The technician will also provide technical feedback, create documentation for technical and non-technical processes, and contribute to knowledge resources such as KB articles, SOPs, and lessons learned. The role requires the ability to work independently, collaborate with technical teams, and drive assigned initiatives through completion. Responsibilities
- Prepare, stage, install, start up, and shut down data center hardware, including servers, racks, hard drives, switches, and related equipment.
- Assist and guide other technicians with challenging or complex technical tasks.
- Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting, identify root causes, and replace faulty hardware components with minimal disruption.
- Perform post-execution quality checks and verify proper grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling according to safety and deployment standards.
- Decommission hardware and perform upgrades or refresh activities, including memory upgrades and OS rebuilds.
- Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate management teams.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and comply with established data center safety procedures.
- Share technical knowledge and contribute to team meetings and operational improvements.
- Complete assigned tickets efficiently while meeting established KPIs and SLAs.
- Maintain accountability for service quality, completeness, and overall data center operations.
- Understand business requirements and the impact of technical work when completing tickets and assigned tasks.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in server hardware, IT infrastructure, troubleshooting, and cabling management. This individual should be highly analytical, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and results-driven., * Exceptional server hardware knowledge with a deep understanding of component-level and system-level failures.
- Experience assisting with failure analysis on field hardware issues.
- Experience tracking server fleet health and investigating emerging hardware failure trends.
- Solid experience using IPMI for server diagnostics.
- Experience administering diagnostic tools, testing utilities, and firmware updates.
- Experience resolving real-time technical issues during new data center deployments.
- Strong experience with Windows Server OS and WinPE administration.
- Experience with Linux PXE services is a plus.
- Basic Linux and Windows scripting experience.
- Understanding of Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 network troubleshooting.
- Experience setting up virtual machines and environment configurations.
- Ability to work independently and within local or geographically distributed teams., * 5 7 years of Data Center Technician experience.
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience preferred.
- CompTIA A+, Server+, or equivalent experience.
- CCENT or equivalent networking experience.
- Strong Windows OS experience.
- CCNA certification preferred.
- MCP/MCSE certification preferred.
- Scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, or Bash preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds when required.
- Ability to safely climb ladders and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Ability to stand and walk throughout a data center facility for extended periods.
- Ability to safely handle tools and equipment and perform repetitive physical tasks required in a data center environment.
