Job description
The City of Fountain is seeking a Distribution System Design Supervisor to lead planning and design of municipal utility distribution systems. This role oversees engineering design for water and/or electric distribution improvements, ensures compliance with safety codes and standards, and coordinates closely with operations, public works, and contractors. The supervisor reviews plans, prepares cost estimates, manages small design projects, and mentors technical staff. This position supports a community-focused culture, delivering reliable, safe utility services that directly impact residents and businesses throughout Fountain. Lead design of municipal distribution system improvements and extensions Review and approve engineering drawings, plans, and specifications Ensure compliance with safety codes, standards, and regulatory requirements Coordinate designs with operations, public works, contractors, and consultants Prepare project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules for capital projects Oversee small to mid-size distribution design projects from concept to completion Provide technical guidance and mentorship to technicians and junior staff Support asset management, system planning, and reliability improvements Review development plans to ensure adequate utility service and capacity Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support community-focused service goals Utility distribution system design Civil or electrical engineering fundamentals CAD design software GIS for utility mapping and planning Project scoping and cost estimating Reading and interpreting engineering plans and specifications Knowledge of safety codes and utility standards Regulatory compliance and permitting Asset management and system planning Technical report and documentation preparation Medical Insurance
Requirements
Vision Insurance Life Insurance 401k Professional Engineer (PE) license in Colorado or ability to obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification Experience with utility distribution design standards and codes Proficiency with CAD or GIS-based design tools Knowledge of municipal infrastructure regulations and permitting
