Senior Estimator (MDOT/DOT experience)

Helms Contractors is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator with MDOT or DOT heavy highway experience to lead estimating efforts for transportation and bridge rehabilitation projects.

This individual will play a key role in developing accurate, competitive bids while helping expand our bridge preservation division throughout Mississippi and the Southeast. Responsibilities

• Prepare complete cost estimates for MDOT and DOT projects.
• Review plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Perform quantity takeoffs.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Analyze labor, equipment, production rates, and material costs.
• Develop competitive bid strategies.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits.
• Work closely with project managers and field operations.
• Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
• Support contract negotiations and project handoffs.

• 5+ years of estimating experience on MDOT or DOT transportation projects.
• Strong understanding of MDOT specifications and bidding procedures.
• Experience estimating bridge, highway, or heavy civil work.
• Proficient in estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and digital plan takeoff tools.
• Ability to read civil and structural plans.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.

• Bridge deck overlays
• Hydrodemolition
• Concrete repair
• Joint replacement
• Undersealing
• Soil stabilization
