To support our growing data landscape, we are looking for a Data Engineer to join our Enterprise Platform Team . Your Role As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining robust data structures and pipelines across both our operational systems and analytical data platform. You ensure that our data is reliable, secure, high-performing, and accessible-empowering teams across Alfen with actionable insights. You will work with a diverse range of data sources, including ERP, HR, service desk systems, and IoT data from our advanced battery solutions. What You'll Do Data Engineering & Platform Development

Design, build and maintain databases and data pipelines across operational systems and the analytical platform

Develop and optimise Microsoft SQL Server environments (T-SQL, stored procedures, ETL/ELT pipelines)

Model data using dimensional modelling and data warehouse best practices

Build and integrate data solutions using Python and modern data engineering tools Performance, Security & Quality

Ensure high performance, scalability, and security of databases

Implement indexing, backup, and recovery strategies

Safeguard data quality through validation, monitoring, and lineage tracking

Monitor system performance and resolve incidents proactively Delivery & Collaboration

Support releases, migrations, and ongoing improvements of the data platform

Collaborate in IT projects and contribute to the data roadmap

Work with tools such as Microsoft SQL Server, Matillion, Snowflake, Azure Analysis Services, and Power BI
-
Participate in on-call duties when required Innovation & Standards

Evaluate and implement new technologies and data engineering best practices

Document data models, pipelines, and flows for transparency and scalability

Maintain standards for naming conventions, version control, and deployment What You Bring
Requirements
-
Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in IT, Data, Computer Science, or similar
-
5+ years of experience in IT/technology roles, including 3+ years in data-focused positions

Strong expertise in SQL Server (T-SQL, stored procedures)

Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, C#, Java or similar

Hands-on experience with data warehousing, dimensional modelling, and ETL/ELT processes

Experience with Snowflake and Matillion is a strong plus

Knowledge of database performance, security, and optimisation

Understanding of operational vs analytical data environments

Strong communication skills in English and Dutch Who You Are
