Job description

You'll be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining embedded firmware, working closely with hardware and wider engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance products.

This is a hands-on role covering bare-metal C development, hardware integration, debugging and testing, with involvement across both new and existing products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded firmware using C.
  • Develop and maintain bare-metal applications.
  • Support new product development and sustaining engineering projects.
  • Develop firmware for embedded hardware and communication interfaces.
  • Write unit and integration tests and supporting test scripts.
  • Diagnose and resolve firmware and hardware issues.
  • Read and interpret hardware schematics and datasheets.
  • Evaluate new hardware devices and designs.
  • Debug embedded systems using appropriate test equipment.
  • Produce technical documentation, including APIs and communication protocols.
  • Use task tracking tools to manage development activities.
  • Contribute to reliability analysis, risk assessments and FMEA.

Requirements

Are you an experienced Embedded Software Engineer with strong C programming skills and a passion for developing firmware close to hardware?, You'll ideally have:

  • 5+ years' experience working with embedded systems.
  • Strong commercial experience developing bare-metal firmware in C.
  • Knowledge of embedded communication protocols such as SPI, RS485 and CAN.
  • Experience debugging embedded hardware and firmware using oscilloscopes, logic analysers and multimeters.
  • Good understanding of electronics and the ability to read schematics.
  • Experience using task tracking and development tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
