Peraton Labs is seeking a talented Software Research Engineer to join our high performing team. This position is onsite (at least three days a week) and may include occasional travel to customer sites.

What You'll Do:

  • Work in a dynamic environment, requiring professional and effective interactions and communications
  • Be a developer on the front line of the research, development, design, and deployment of an existing application
  • Responsible for designing, testing, coding, and developing solutions to meet customer needs; ensuring software continues to function normally through software maintenance, upgrade, and testing; documenting the application, service, and environment as a reference for future operations and maintenance, including version and platform upgrades
  • Participate in design reviews, peer code reviews, and documentation for regular software releases
  • Connect with other project developers to ensure efficient data flow between supporting/supported data sources, utilizing API development
  • Collaborate to prototype and operationalize mission tools

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 3 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 0 years with Ph.D.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related scientific/engineering discipline.
  • Ability and desire to quickly acquire knowledge of new subject matter areas
  • Expertise in one or more of: C, C++, Java, Python, Go, or similar languages
  • Working knowledge of Linux, MacOS, Windows, and mobile operating systems, platforms and internals
  • Working knowledge of modern computer networking technologies
  • Experience with DevOps and Agile development methodologies and toolsets (Git, subversion, CI/CD)
  • Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • US Citizenship

Desired Relevant Skills (not required, but any are a plus):

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Data Science and Data-driven Analytics
  • Threat analysis and research
  • Computer networking protocol design and/or analysis
  • Compute and network emulation, containerization, and virtualization
  • Security controls and authorization
  • Experience with one or more of the following classes of tools and frameworks:

  • Vector Packet Processor (VPP) platform
  • Data Plan Development Kit (DPDK)
  • ELK Stack implementation (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
  • Flask API or similar API architectures; REST, GraphQL, gRPC, etc.
  • Container and Orchestration solutions, including Docker and Kubernetes
  • Automation tools, including Ansible playbooks
  • Linux/Command Line Terminal familiarity with scripting (Bash/Python)
  • HTML/CSS/JavaScript and related technologies
  • Network traffic generation tools, including Scapy
  • Network emulation frameworks, including CORE
  • Cloud Data Work:
  • ETL pipeline development
  • Automation tools
  • Containerization and Orchestration
  • Databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB
  • Experience with platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform
  • Networking Skills:
  • Knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of IP and core IP technologies
  • Knowledge in basic networking and application protocols (e.g., routing, VLANs, VPNs, switching, multicast, etc.)
  • Experience in IPv4/IPv6, TCP/UDP, routing, encapsulation, packet analysis tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, and tshark
  • Ability to read and understand a network infrastructure diagram and troubleshoot network issues
  • Experience supporting production or enterprise network environments
  • Experience in the U.S. DoD/IC research community
  • Experience with CNO (offensive/defensive), including red teaming, network tactics, and tradecraft
  • Experience in business development, including technical marketing, idea generation, and authoring whitepapers and proposals for new work
  • Willingness to travel to operational sites (CONUS/OCONUS) to support operations, troubleshooting, test events, and training work.
