Job description

The Department of Technology Operations (DTO) is seeking a Security Architect - Consultant (Cloud Engineer) to support the deployment and management of State-Wide Information Technology Shared Services Cloud initiatives and projects. This role will help further develop the State of South Carolina Cloud Strategy, collaborate with state agencies for cloud adoption, and support the managed cloud broker transition. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform system administration, automation, and development tasks for the Cloud Management Platform (CMP).
  • Work directly with DTO and customer/agency personnel to facilitate smooth migrations to the DTO cloud infrastructure.
  • Maintain continuity of shared services offered across both AWS and Azure environments.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations and migrations to AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure as the organization transitions to a managed cloud broker model.

Requirements

  • Infrastructure & Systems Engineering: 10+ years in infrastructure, systems engineering, DevOps, or technical architecture.
  • Technical Architecture: 8+ years of technical architecture experience.
  • AWS Expertise: 5 7 years working with AWS (IAM, Organizations, Networking Architectures, Cost Management controls, etc.).
  • Azure Expertise: 3 5 years working with Azure (RBAC, Azure AD, Networking Architectures, Cost Management controls, etc.).
  • Enterprise Cloud Architecture: 3 7 years in enterprise cloud architecture or governance.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): 3 5 years of hands-on experience with Terraform.
  • Cloud Migrations: 3 5 years in cloud migrations and platform operations.
  • Technical Leadership: 3+ years in technical leadership and knowledge transfer.
  • Public Cloud: Proven expertise in public cloud infrastructure design and deployment.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Expertise in scaling technologies, Kubernetes, Docker, or other container platforms.
  • Hands-on familiarity with security tools, penetration testing, and threat detection solutions.
  • Experience with cloud management and monitoring tools such as ServiceNow, Datadog, Dome9, and/or Aviatrix.
  • Background in DevOps, Software Development, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with configuration management and continuous deployment (CI/CD).

Education & Certifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field combined with 8+ years of technical architecture experience and hands-on engineering.
  • Certifications: AWS and/or Azure certifications are preferred.
