Job description
Steele Consulting is hiring an Associate Software Developer to join our software engineering team. This is an entry level role designed to give developers a structured foundation for long term success. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and leaders who support your growth through mentorship, feedback, and hands-on collaboration on real client projects.
The target progression for this role is advancement to Software Engineer (D2) within approximately 12 months, based on demonstrated growth, technical proficiency, ownership, communication, and alignment with our mission and values. What You'll Do:

Contribute as a front end or back end developer on Agile software development teams, building responsive user interfaces with modern JavaScript or native mobile frameworks and developing server side APIs, databases, and supporting services.

Write secure, readable, and maintainable code while learning Steele's engineering standards and best practices.

Develop unit tests and self-test your work to ensure reliability, and participate in peer reviews and pair programming to strengthen your skills and improve solution quality.

Take part in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives and communicate progress consistently.

Build an understanding of client businesses and goals, and begin translating technical concepts into clear, business friendly language for both technical and non technical audiences.

Grow through documentation, research, and collaboration with peers and stakeholders, continuously expanding your technical skills.
Requirements
A foundation in software development, whether through a degree, bootcamp, internships, personal projects, or equivalent experience.

Familiarity with one or more modern programming languages (for example, Java, Python, C++, JavaScript, or Ruby on Rails).

Exposure to front-end frameworks such as React or Angular, and/or server-side development with databases (for example, PostgreSQL, SQL Server or another SQL database).

Basic understanding of version control (such as Git/GitHub) and an interest in Agile team practices.

Strong problem-solving instincts, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate on a team.

A growth mindset: humility, curiosity, openness to feedback, and eagerness to learn.
