Why the Opening Exists

This is a backfill position replacing a previous employee.

The hiring manager is seeking a candidate with strong foundational embedded engineering experience who can contribute independently.

Team Structure

Embedded Software Teams

  • Team 1: 8 Engineers (Current Opening)
  • Team 2: 7 Engineers
  • Team 3: 7 Engineers

Contractor Presence

  • Approximately 2 contractors per team
  • Contractors work directly alongside full-time employees

Supporting Organizations

  • Hardware Engineering is a separate organization
  • No dedicated QA/testing team
  • Two Scrum Masters currently support all three teams
  • Third Scrum Master is being added

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and develop embedded software solutions
  • Build platform-level functionality
  • Work directly with hardware and embedded systems
  • Participate in software architecture and design discussions
  • Write unit tests and validate code quality
  • Conduct code reviews
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies
  • Contribute to long-term SDA product development initiatives

This is 100% new development work and not maintenance support. Engineers will have significant ownership and influence over product design and technical direction.

Hardware Exposure

Strong preference for candidates who have developed software across multiple hardware platforms, such as:

  • Raspberry Pi
  • Proprietary embedded devices
  • Industrial control systems
  • Embedded controller platforms

Testing Mindset

Candidates should be comfortable:

  • Writing unit tests
  • Testing their own code
  • Participating in code reviews

Preferred Qualifications
