Job description
We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud System Engineer with a strong software development background and a systems-thinking mindset to support the design, development, and implementation of mission-critical solutions within the AFSAC Online (AOL) environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in development languages such as PHP, .NET, Java, and a demonstrated ability to architect and support scalable, secure, and integrated systems that align with customer objectives
This role will provide end-to-end technical support. This includes solution architecture and systems integration to infrastructure optimization and collaboration across the AFSAC landscape, Cloud Migration Planning and Readiness
- Conduct application discovery and readiness assessments to evaluate existing architectures, dependencies, integrations, data flows, and infrastructure requirements in preparation for cloud migration efforts.
- Lead cloud migration planning activities, including stakeholder workshops, technical review sessions, migration strategy development, workload prioritization, and roadmap creation aligned with mission and business objectives.
- Analyze application portfolios to identify migration risks, technical debt, licensing considerations, security requirements, and modernization prerequisites, providing recommended remediation plans prior to cloud adoption.
- Develop target-state cloud architectures and migration transition plans, including environment sizing, networking considerations, security controls, data migration approaches, and deployment strategies to support successful migration execution.
Enterprise Architecture and Modernization
- Design and support enterprise system architectures aligned with AFSAC Online (AOL) modernization goals
- Lead efforts to assess and modernize legacy applications to include those using outdated or non-cloud-friendly languages, by identifying modernization paths, redesign opportunities, and cloud-native alternatives
- Take initiative in analyzing existing systems holistically, offering transformation strategies without waiting on external direction or excessive guidance
- Translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable system designs.
Technical Leadership and Collaboration
- Collaborate with developers, cybersecurity specialists, and infrastructure teams to deliver integrated, compliant, and mission-aligned solutions
- Support full system development lifecycles (SDLC), including requirements gathering, architecture reviews, prototyping, testing, and implementation
- Provide hands-on development assistance in languages such as PHP, .NET, and Java to accelerate modernization and delivery timelines
- Ensure compliance with DoD and DISA standards, including Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
- Support and optimize cloud and hybrid system environments, including performance tuning, monitoring, and issue resolution
- Contribute to improving architecture documentation, development workflows, and DevSecOps collaboration practices
- Automate deployments, monitoring, and system management tasks using scripting and modern toolsets
- Administer and support infrastructure within Cloud One or similar platforms using native cloud tools and services
- Manage software artifacts and dependencies using Artifactory or similar repositories
Requirements
- Candidate must possess a current DoD 8140 IAM Level II certification which includes one of the following:
- Bachelor's degree in: Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or Software Engineering, OR
- Certification in: CompTIA Security+ CE, Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate, CySA+, or GSEC
- Proven experience designing and supporting enterprise-level systems, preferably in DoD or highly regulated environments
- Strong development background in one or more of the following: PHP, .NET, Java
- Demonstrated experience reviewing and modernizing legacy applications and technologies
- Familiarity with system architecture principles, SDLC, and DevSecOps practices
- Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, Cloud One), including lift-and-shift, refactor, and replatform strategies
- Experience with cloud migrations (e.g., AWS, Azure, Cloud One, etc.)
- Solid understanding of cybersecurity and system hardening best practices, * Familiarity with Air Force Security Assistance and Cooperation Directorate (AFSAC) Online (AOL)
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automation within development and deployment lifecycles
- Effective communication skills with the ability to influence and lead technical direction, especially in ambiguous or legacy-heavy environments
