The Radar Mechanical Design Department is seeking an experienced Associate Director Engineer to serve as the Hardware Lead for the Ground-Based Radar Digitization (GBRD) program. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the technology and obsolescence updates across multiple early warning radar sites, driving modernization and ensuring system continuity.
This multi-phase program is led by the Air and Space Defense Systems business unit and emphasizes hardware commonality and technological advancement. As the Hardware Lead, you will act as the primary technical focal point for hardware across the Integrated Product Teams, ensuring seamless hardware delivery and alignment with program goals.
This is an onsite position based in Marlborough, MA, or Tewksbury, MA, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a program of critical importance to national defense., * Partner with the chief engineer, technical leads, Operations leads, and Mission Assurance.

The position requires frequent interaction with all levels of Raytheon Management, internal and external customers.

Willing to travel domestically in support of Hardware and Program activities, * Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

This position requires security clearance. DCSA Consolidated Adjudication Services (DCSA CAS), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Requirements
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance, * Experience in leading a cross functional team including members from Engineering, Operations, Integrated Supply Chain, and Quality through production, issue resolution, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience implementing EVMS and Risk & Opportunity Management.
- Experience in program planning, budgeting, and tracking to cost and schedule.
- The role requires close management of Engineering production support while simultaneously balancing resulting performance with the ability to meet the customers critical schedule requirements.
- Regular review of program status including tracking and review by both Engineering Leadership and Program Leadership.
- Extensive knowledge of hardware engineering capabilities to ensure successful technical execution., * Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 10 years' experience.
- Experience leading and participating in design and development activities of Radar Design technologies.
- Experience in leadership positions.
- Experience preparing both technical and cost proposals.
- Experience with EVMS Earned Value Management and other program management skills., * Extensive knowledge of transition to production and the ability to lead a design release into ongoing production.
- 10+ years participating in leadership positions.
- Advanced degree in Engineering discipline.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written.
- Experience in driving Cost Reduction Initiatives and partnering with Suppliers in reducing costs and or driving quick closure to issues.
Benefits & conditions
The salary range for this role is 157,200 USD - 298,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
